Does spider plant affect co2 levels in aquarium?

Hello! I read somewhere that spider plant can affect co2 levels. That high co2 levels and lack of oxygen can affect fish. I have not placed them in my tank yet cause I'm afraid of this. I have a betta tank with sponge filter on lowest setting and doesn't produce a high concentration of bubbles cause they like low flow. Anyone who has spider plants in a low flow aquarium confirm this? Thank you

I have a couple of spider plants in the same tank as multiple pothos plants. The pothos and monstera has overgrown and outcompeted the spider for available light and space. To the point now that I am not sure if I can find the spider plants?

Looking now as I take this snapshot.

Having had a bit of a one minute search I can’t see much spider plant today. I can say there was 3 or four cuttings in the top left hand tank 6 months ago.
I have no way of testing the levels of CO 2 or oxygen for that matter.
I have only sponge filters in all small tanks. I am not sure what constitutes a low flow tank ? Personally I think oxygen that comes from surface movement is important.

Thank you! Pothos was definitely one of my options but it's toxic to cats. Gorgeous tanks by the way! I have my betta in a 5 gallon and the filter sponge is on its lowest setting, was worried that if there isn't a lot of oxygen in aquarium the spider plant will produce too much co2.

It would only have it's roots in the water wouldn't it? How would it produce CO2?

Yes roots in water. Article claimed this

"Indeed, when you submerge only the roots of a plant into an aquarium, these will release CO2, as opposed to the leaves, which produce oxygen. Excessive CO2 with a lack of oxygen can cause both the plant and the animals in the aquarium to die."
Well that's interesting. I assumed that whatever CO2 the plant didn't store was expired through the leaves.
