I got my betta from the store a week? ago and he had some black edges on his fins. I didn't think much of it but looking around in the internet about betta illnesses, I noticed them talking about fin rot. I was worried he had it but didn't want to overreact and treat a healthy fish. I noticed today that the black is getting more pronounced? Should I consider a aquarium salt treatment? I use seachem prime and I'm afraid of adding too much sodium into the water . (Also, I know my gravel is nasty, I'm working on it)

how he was when I saw him in the store:

how big is your tank and is it cycled? the betta seems to have early stages of fin rot but that is common in bettas in those cups so it should heal on it own if you keep your water clean.

I have a ten gallon that's been running since Aug 2017, so I feel like its been cycled. I've had a problem recently with algae blooms because I had a previously overstocked tank, but I try and do a water change once a week.
