Does My Adf Have Fungus

Could anyone help me with this?

My frog has been at the top of the tank for over a week and barely comes down and I am not sure what his problem is. Is that fungus or something else?

Should note he doesn't look that white in normal light. The light seems to make it look way white/larger.

Help!

It could be chytrid. Did you quarantine him for at least a month or two? Additionally, is he struggling at the surface or showing flaky skin? Also, is he still eating well? Those are all signs that could indicate chytrid , which would have to be treated immediately. Where did you get him from? (He doesn't really look like any adf I've ever seen tbh). I'm not really familiar with any other frog diseases or illnesses, so if it's something else someone else should help.

Thanks for response!

I have had him for about 9 months so I don’t think cythrid.

He was a grey color then I changed the substrate to a white sand and it was like his skin changed color to be all spotted like that

But he is spending way too much time st the top and I am worried.

He sometime struggles at surface but mostly just hangs out. His skin comes off fairly tattered.

If you've had him for 9 months, I'm not really sure, but chytrid could still be the culprit, as I'm pretty sure the spores can go dormant. Plus, if his tank was at a slightly higher temperature, it develops a little slower. If his skin is tattered and he's always by the top, I'd still treat for chytrid. I'll attach a link with the procedure I used and a link for the symptoms, so I'd recommend treatment if your frog shows symptoms.

Okay thanks for the info.

I am going to buy quarantine tank for him and start lamisil baths right away.

the way he's floating is definitely not good, neither is the tattered shedding or thrashing. it could be chytrid or maybe some other fungus. his skin does look pretty weird.

have you introduced any new fish, snails, shrimp or plants in the past 3 months that could have carried chytrid spores? maybe cross-contamination using equipment from other tanks?

the lamisil treatment should hopefully help get rid of any other fungus. good luck!!!!! I hope the lil guy feels better

Hi

Yes we got some java fern from petsmart and I put them right in.

I did not know you were supposed to do a dip to the plant so I really hope that’s not the cause

Feel horrible about it really love the frog.

hmm.. was it a tissue culture fern in a tube, or was it in a tank? I suppose the tube plant could have been infected from the place they get them from. it doesn't seem super likely though.

is he bloated at all? any red spots? can you get a better picture of him?

I know how you feel it's not your fault. it probably wasn't even the plant. they even say not to flush chytrid infected water down the sink, and to let chytrid infected corpses dry out before you dispose of them so it doesn't get into the water system and infect local wild frogs. it's nasty stuff.

I made a big mistake with my frog that I had for over 5 years. I put an obviously sick frog into his tank without quarantining her first. he ended up getting whatever she had and died a week later. :/

My girlfriend picked it up it was a mature plant just in a bag.

He is a little bloated in the tummy but he could just be fat lol he’s been fat for a while.

He had red front hands and arms a couple weeks ago but I treated him with kanaplex and that went away.

If he's really fat, you could try feeding every other day. My sister does that with her frog and he is at a pretty healthy weight, although sometimes he gets a little fat too (haha). After the treatment, there's an extensive cleaning process if you want to use the same tank again. IMO, it's easier to get another one, (and another filter and heater) but obviously not everyone can or wants to do that. When the treatment is done, make sure that he doesn't touch anything from his old tank unless it's been extensively cleaned, and obviously make sure there's no contamination from his quarantine to the original. I would use a whole different set of supplies if possible, otherwise make sure to clean all his supplies as well, including the siphon. Otherwise, if it is fungus and he's put back into the original tank, he'll just get reinfected. If you manage to clean the tank well enough to put him back in, you'd probably have to boil every decoration in there and replace the live plants, unfortunately. It's a lot of work, but I don't think it's worth the risk.

yeah, he just looks plump, not bloated. are those little white spots the sand or fungus? they don't look like his skin.

the kanaplex could have lowered his immune system, making him pick something else up. it's always a gamble when using medications.

The spots are on his skin just like original picture. He’s only on the bottom because I shot a little air on him to get down but he went right back up.

I got the new tank already and am going to put him in there ASAP.

I really hope he does well while medicated! Just a warning though, he'll super stressed out and the treatment is not 100%, unfortunately.

Well he is in the new tank and has had first lamisil bath. A bunch of skin sloughed off right away which I hear is a good sign. He has been coming down from the top more and doing some swimming. Girlfriend even said he was doing a bit of singing too which is always promising.

Not getting my hopes up too much but things are pointed in a good direction I hope.

Sad update here-

Poor Frog did not make it in the end

He must have had some major fungal/bacterial issues with his skin that I could just not get rid of. Did the Lamisil baths for 10 days and when he first was in the quarantine tank his behavior improved for a few days. But after 5 or so days he started to be back at the top again and he did not shed at all. He was eating and playing for the days up to his death so I just do not understand why he took such a bad turn.

When I first got him his sheds where always tattered so he must have had something the entire time. About a month ago he had bloody front claws and the kanaplex healed that up and he went into quarantine so I just am so confused as to weather the bacterial infection came back or it was the weird white stuff on his skin (still not sure if it was fungus since it wasn't cottony... just looked like his skin had weird white patches that were flat...) that killed him in the end.

Just wish I would have known exactly what was wrong and how to treat him. That is most frustrating part of it. Felt helpless as to how to effectively identify what was wrong then fix it...

RIP Crazy frog

thanks for the words... he was so full of energy and had a great personality which makes it really sad. Never going to buy frogs from the place I did, going to a smaller, mom-and-pop shop next time to make sure they are healthier. really feel like the frogs I got were sick from the start but who knows...
