Does it matter if my hob overflows?

Hi, my 10g topfin HOB filter is overflowing less than 2 weeks after purchase. I didn't know that I had to DIY my own cartridge to prevent this and I'm not willing to restart my cycle at this point. Lots of friendly users here shares filter guides already so I'm okay in that department.

Question: does it really matter if the filter overflows? It's still pushing water through my tank and aside from possibly burning my filter out early I can't think of any problems this might cause. Its overflowing now and working fine. I've tried the swish method but honestly it's not even gunked up and messing with it in the first place filled my tank with clouds of the little debris that was on it. As soon as I took it out this happened. I'd like to avoid making messes and having ammonia spikes if I don't need to.

Thanks guys!

To clarify, I will clean it once a month or like normal, I just want to know if overflowing is a problem or a non issue

i have two aqueon quiet flows running in my tank. i tossed out those filter cartridges and took out those indicator lights. i ignore them. if you mean a little drizzle passed the filter? i havent had any issues i just rinse my sponges and media every so often. if i plug in the led indicators they will certainly start flashing, you could even stick a small sponge in the overflow. i tilt my hob filter a little foreword just incase the water backs up in the back of the filter and instead it will flow forward regardless. thats my experience

Sweet! Yup, it just flows over to the side.. theres a little overflow spot there.. I thought it might leak but nope it works fine. Glad to know it's a non-issue! Thanks for the help

Well, actually just had to rehome the last of my guppies because they kept dying, but that cause was believed to be a bully

Be sure to use an aquarium maintenance bristle brush or a tooth
brush to keep the overflow channels gunk free.
They eventually will clog up if not serviced. I found that out the hard way. Lol.
