Does Betta Fish Behaviour Differ Between Species?

HI again!

Went and saw some Betta's today and was shocked to see crowntail and half moon Betta's costing £17.99 and a veiltail only £4.99

The veiltail was very active, I don't think he was too happy in the community tank, the others were in small devided tanks.
But it made me wonder... Do they behave differently according to different species?

For example could a veiltail be more or less active than a crowntail etc?

Or is it all down to each individual personality?

My sister has a halfmoon and I have a veiltail. My sisters betta is always lethargic, bites his tail, and looks unhealthy, laying around on the bottom a lot. However, my veiltail, Lemon, has had fin rot, but he's very active, loves to eat, and follows my finger. I like shorter tailed bettas because it seems to be easier on them. It's because of tail types. They are expensive because they are beautiful, but beauty comes with a price.

Yes I read something earlier about their tails getting too big in breeding and it's not good for the fish or something

I think I'll get a veiltail then, cheaper and very vibrant in colour, the only colours available near me are red or blue though, I'd love a purple one or a mix

I have noticed my veiltale has become a little less active since his tail has grown larger but he is still pretty active. I assume that tail weighs em down a bit! I'm sure each individual fish is a little different!

Someone told me to consider females

A couple of pretty females that live together would be lovely but I've never seen any for sale locally

What country are you in? If you have a 20 long and plant it heavily you could do 5-6 females. They are called betta sororities.

I'm in the UK

My tank is 24" long and will have loads of plants emmysjj

Is it stressful for them to be in a sorority? If they prefer being solitary I'd prefer to keep them like that

I don't feel a sorority stresses them out if its properly setup. Granted I have never had one in a 20 gallon tank.

That should work fine, if introduced properly it isn't stressful for you or them
