Does Anyone Own The Marineland 38 Gallon Starter Kit?

Hello Fishlore,
I was recently looking at a 60g tank that needed to be resealed but someone else bought it before I got a chance to contact the seller. I started to look at other tanks and one specific tank caught my eye (and right now it's on sale where I live ). The Marineland 38 Gallon Starter Kit. I would have to add some more filtration (sponge filter?) but other than that it would be fine for me.
It had really mixed reviews. About 40% of them were saying the tank started leaking after a while. Should I trust it? I understand leaks can happen in any brand, but this one had especially discouraging reviews.
If worst comes to worst, it leaks and I have to reseal it, but I don't want to put my fish under all that stress.
What do you guys think?

I have a 60 gallon marineland and it works fine i think because since it looks nice, a lot of inexperienced ppl will get it and screw up on something and that's what happens

I have a 75 gallon Marinland and just bought a second one today. That is really the only brand I have available in my area. I have had the first one for 8 months now...with no problems.

38 gallon is the bowfront right? If so, it's rimless. I know people love them, but I don't trust them.

Bowfronts are not rimless as they have to have the support brace.

I would suggest to double check the width of the seams when you go to look at the tank you are looking at. You can always do a preemptive resealing to avoid the stress and possible spills if it does fail with the original seals.

That's what I thought too until I saw it for sale in person at petsmart. Like I said, sketchy as heck. Lol.

Edit: I lied. I just looked it up. I'm talking about the aqueon 36 gallon. But still. No rimless bowfronts please.

Then something was done to it as they need that trim around the top to support the water weight. (Most likely the box it comes in was pulled off too roughly with trim not properly siliconed in place and they just put it out because they didn't notice it.)

Go to a petsmart next time you drive by and look for yourself lol. I was in disbelief too but they had 2 of them and the dude said he owned the same one and it's held up for him when I expressed my disbelief. He could have been lying, but they still had 2 of em. Idk if you saw my edit but it was the aqueon 36 combo, not the marineland.

I have this take and it does not have a top rim. The hood is considered the top rim.

The one I am looking at does have a rim and has a glass canopy hood.

These tanks are being manufactured thousand of them so I’m sure some may get thru inspec with an issue or two I have 3 of their tanks none that big but 2 are rimless and when I got the first I thought the same thing is this going to hold water on the 20 u can barely even see the silicone but all is well thus far 8 months

We have the same tank. It is 36 gallons though. No rim. The canopy with light recessed into it is the brace. Terrible design in my opinion.

The tank was given to us. So I cannot complain about cost. The stand that goes with it is nice.

No. I didn't trust the reviews enough. I read them over again and about 40-50% of the reviews complained of the tank leaking after 6 months to a year which was too bad because the equipment it came weren't terrible for once.
