I have a 10 gallon tank and right now I have a couple guppies. I want to do a Betta tank. My stocking would be one male betta, 4-6 albino or pygmy cory, and 2-3 Otos how's this stocking? The tank will he heavily planted right now an anubias, two java fern, and 8-10 anachrias (sp?) Does anyone know where a good place to buy bettas online? I really want a half moon or double tail, but it's so hard finding any at petco/petsmart.

So you are removing the guppies? If so, sounds good to me

I would say drop the otos they are very sensitive and wouldnt be able to keep up with feedings with the corys

Imo 10 gallons isn't big enough for albino corys or Oto's & Bettas are best kept alone, however if you really want to try other fish you could have habrosus corys but have a back up plan in case the Betta doesn't tolerate them.

Bettas do not like many other fish. I wouldn't suggest putting any cories in a ten gallon tank, they are just either too big or too active. Pygmy cories *might* be okay, but not with a betta. They'd drive him insane and he'd attack them. Generally speaking, very fast, active fish are not good tank mates for bettas. Most male bettas prefer to be kept in tanks alone anyway.

How would a school of neons or rosaboras do? and if the tank is heavily planted would I be able to keep the betta with the guppies most are females with little to no color. I only have one male thst could be a threat.

In other words I'm more worried about the betta getting hurt thrn the guppies

Ignoring compatibility issues, that's too many fish in the tank. Neons and Cardinals really need a larger tank as well.

Bottom line is that bettas prefer to be alone 90% of the time.

I would do a nerite snail and some shrimp instead of fish with the betta. You might get lucky and get a tolerant male but the odds are unfortunately against it.

Ok. I'm just gonna keep an eye open at the pet shops and see if I can find one. Then get some cherry and ghost shrimp

Bettas are solitary fish. They NEED to be alone. You may get a Betta that will tolerate roommates for a while. Operative words are FOR A WHILE. Unless you are a hardcore gambler, and have no problem playing Russian Roulette please don't do it.
If you want more fish in your 10 G, do it, but don't include Betta in your stock.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Keep us posted

Oooo!!! He's a beauty!
I agree that bettas are aggressive, but I have kept cory cats with my betta and never had any issues. They grew like crazy and the betta would actually sit by them and chill. I have also had neons with my betta, but I wouldn't suggest that because my betta tried eating them a couple of times. The cory cats and betta both grew old together and died together.
Right now I have another betta with african dwarf frogs, ghost shrimp, and 4 mystery snails. This betta loves his tank mates. I think it just depends on the betta. Bettas DONT absolutely have to be kept alone. In fact most bettas enjoy the company. Right now my betta is laying next to an african dwarf frog.
Oh and also I have a 10 gallon too. Everyone in the tank, and everyone that was in the tank before thrived. It just depends on how many fish you put in the tank, and the maintenance.

I have mine with guppies and about 12 fry with one cory and he'll chase the guppies away if they go buy his bubble nest but otherwise he just ignores them.
