Are you referring to that gold sort of iridescence on the side of its head? I wonder if it’s velvet?

Yes it didn't have that before and the other Mollie I have doesn't have it .... Honestly I have no idea what it is I kinda thought it was a swim bladder issue but ive tried Epsom salt bath once a day for the last 3days I put 1 and a half tablespoons in 2 gallons of water and put the fish in it for 10 mins then move her back into a hospital tank I set up and yesterday i did a methaline blue bath I've also tried feeding her peas and I've been doing daily 30% water changes nothing seems to be working I don't know what else to do

Hi,

So sorry your fin baby is having problems!

If she is having trouble breathing, is lethargic, has no appetite, and is flashing against objects in the tank, then she may have velvet. When she swims, is she trying to rub agaisnt things? If so, this is her trying to scrape off the parasites (Oodinium). The gold coloring on her gills is what makes us think she might have this parasite. With velvet, the parasites will attack the gills first, and then can spread to the other parts of the body.

I would recommend that you read about the condition to see if that matches what is going on with her.

If it does sound like that is what is going on, you will need some sort of copper based med to help fight it. I have used Cupramine by Seachem, and Copper Safe by Mardel. You can raise the temp of the tank to about 84, turn the lights off, and add aquarium salt to help prevent any secondary infections that the parasties bursting from the fish's body might cause. Keeping the lights dim or off will help because the parasite contains chlorophyll and needs light to live/reproduce/thrive.

Aquarium salt baths will help more than epsom salt baths if she has velvet. But if you are going to treat the entire tank, then that should hlep in case your other molly is infected, too.

This parasite is one that takes advantage of a stressed, weakened fish. It's believed that it is present in most fish tanks, but healthy fish can stave it off with no problem.

Since you did not list the levels of your water parameters, does that mean that you do not normally test your tank water? If not, it might be worth it to invest in a decent freshwater test kit, or bring a sample to Petco and let them test it. The kits are much better than the strips for water testing. There might be something going on with the water that you are unaware of.

I hope this helps, and I hope she gets better soon!!!

Here's an updated copper safe bottle, but it's the same stuff....

Mardel Coppersafe®

Sorry for the confusion!!!!
Awesome thank you so much for the info and helping me sorry for the late reply i just finished work
Copper Safe is the Mardel product. Sorry, I forgot it was put out by Fritz! I would get that and start treatment right away. Also, don't forget the heat, turn off the lights, and the aquarium salt.

This link shows a pic of the product, not an endorsement for the seller on amazon...

I appreciate all of the knowledge and advice given to me . thank you again, take care and be well.
