40 Gallon Tank Does anyone have experience with buying online?

Hi guys!
I'm thinking about buying a fancy goldfish next year, he's would go in my planted 40gal with my other Oranda and a bn pleco
Hopefully I can set up my 20gal, and rehome my neon tetras, comets, and glass catfish pretty easily.
first off, is a giant fancy oranda good in a planted tank? I've heard that they're like bulls in china shops, my other one isn't really because it's really small and not as clumsy as the taller ones. I prefer the more slim bodied orandas anyway, so... what do you think? If anyone knows of a better fancy goldfish for this, let me know! I want nice, full fins and a round body, plus I'm not really a fan of telescopes.
and, has anyone gotten fish from King Koi goldfish?
this is the one I like best, it's cheap, the shipping is free, and they seem very high quality. the other one that I found is Dandy Orandas, but I don't really like the auction idea, even though I know that their packaging is really nice.
thanks in advance!

Depends on your plants. I've been doing research of my own for fancies. Apparently plants are fine as long as they are tough like anubias, don't root down or grow really leaves quickly.
I've seen the king koi goldfish website, I thought you had to spend a certain amount to get free shipping.

Yeah, I've had an anubias in my tank for awhile and it does really well.
I just got a ton of new plants, so I guess I'll see how it goes.
That might be right, it's really hard to tell lol but I only plan to buy one so it should be fine!

It can be hit or miss. If I were you, I’d just go to Petsmart and groom a goldfish. It’s saving an animal and it’s cheap and some goldfish there are really nice

Buying online is a way to shop for the specific fish you want, whatever size, color, or breed, as well as being able to guarantee you get a fish from a trusted source, often wish a DOA refund or replacement, at least a discount. King Koi has good reviews, if you don't mind being in the pricier range Goldfish Island or East Coast Ranchu are good options as well. EBay can be hit or miss, but you can find a wide range of sellers and fish, from hobbyists to breeders making their living off of it, like Live Koi for Sale aka lewnews (probably the cheapest option). Even if it's from a trusted source, I can't stress enough how important quarantine is.

As far as keeping goldfish with plants goes, there are many that can do well with goldfish, but avoid keeping fragile or expensive ones with them or they probably will end up as a pricey fish salad. (Generally) goldfish proof plants include: anacharis, Amazon sword, rotala rotundifolia, java fern, money wort, penny wort, ludwigia, hornwort, and dwarf sag to name a few. Most goldfish won't touch those, orandas included.

Yeah that's the other thing. I also could just wait untill I find one that's better quality, plus then I can meet him in person, and they're a lot cheaper! They might even come from the same breeders

Another thing to consider, is that a goldfish from a store close to you is also most likely using the same WATER you are. Where I live we have pretty hard water, and if I were to order a fish from another state, it could be that fish is accustomed to living in soft water and there would be some adjustments to make. You can already be pretty confident that a fish in your local fish store is fine with whatever water is local to you.

I got my last fish based on energy and personality. He was extremely energetic, not at all skittish and very curious about my hand and face near the tank. You really don't get a feel for the 'heart' of a fish from an online auction. It's easy to get distracted by the curb appeal of an overbred fancy goldfish. Sure the color might be nice but that does not mean it's a nice pet. I paid less than $5 for each of my fish and they are amazing! But I spent a lot of time observing fish in several different places before I finally chose one. My little guy is a plain old blackmoor; I think my fish may have been a 'slightly imperfect' cull. He had a tail defect when I brought him home but it has since grown out. I really lucked out! He has almost doubled in size since April.
