Does Anyone Disinfect Their Maintenance Equipment?

Things to ponder during a WC lol!

So as I’m doing my 40 this morning I was thinking about all the tubing I have for aquarium use only: gravel vacuum, python, tubing to run from the nitrate filter faucet to the trash can, and tubing from the pump I place in the trash can to the tanks.
I do rinse it all before I use it the next time and I do drain it after use.
Does anyone disinfect periodically in any way? And what do you use?

Each aquarium has its own net. The rest of the equipment for tending plants and water changes dries out completely.

Oh good! Glad to see I am practicing an appropriate slacking level
I only have separate bets for quarantine and hospital. But that’s something else to muse over.
Now I think I’ll go ponder adding more Tiger barbs and golden diamond barbs to the 75 or a school of ruby barbs. I’m kind of wanting some color.
And right now, the tigers and golden diamond barbs are getting along so well that I’m leaning toward not upsetting that balance.

I only disinfect when treating disease or buying used equipment. Like Thunder, I do keep separate utensils like nets for each tank.

For the nets, I simply spray down with Hydrogen Peroxide. I never had a problem. If ich, then I air dry it for 2 days because I know the parasite will die if it does not find a host within 48hrs.

Most aquatic diseases die if you dry stuff out, however, if I'm doing back to back water changes Ill utilize hydrogen peroxide. If anything really nasty or used equipment, I use bleach.

Same for me, though when I had only 2 nets and three tanks I just did a peroxide dip with the one I switched back and forth.

The only equipment I have for plants right now are tweezers, and they get dipped for each tank as well.

I got nets for each tank due to ich outbreaks, and ich being spread.
I had two healthy bettas who I was terrified of giving ich so I had to be very precautionate during this time.

They all also have their own water testing jug things
They're small tubes for each tanks all written which tank on them.

I have different siphons for 2 tanks, the small siphon gets rinsed bu not hydro dipped.
I basically run hot water for it for a few minutes to make sure all old water is out and no bacteria could be inside.
The big siphon is only used on the 55 or when I need to do a fast water change, but still even then, it's either rinsed or used in a different tank before it's used in the 55.

I don't rinse things after cleaning my bettas though, only because I know they're healthy.

Every tank has is own material, the only thing that is share is the bucket to drop the old water and the jug to fill them back. Even have a back-up set up for the QT in case.
And like everybody, I just rinse them I running water and then let it dry!

I'm happy you made this post basil.

A little off topic, but I was actually just wondering yesterday about ich. Does anyone know if it has endospores? I tried looking it up and couldn't find an answer.

Both bleach and hydrogen peroxide, in high enough concentrations, can sterilize. To fully sterilize means it has to kill endospores. I use bleach quite a bit when it comes to cleaning my tank stuff. It breaks down relatively quick, so you don't have to wait too long for the item to be safe for your tank again. I also have certain items that are only used for just "their" tank.

I used to rinse the siphon with hot water between every tank... Now it has about 5 seconds until it goes into the next tank... I only rinse it out when I'm done the bettas to other fish or when I'm done over all.

I haven't thought about cleaning my equipment, but now I think it's a good idea.

Thanks for the great idea (hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle). My equipment cleaning is pretty lax but that's probably because I haven't had much illness besides treating fin rot in a new Betta.

Store grade hydrogen peroxide won’t do too much. You may want to use diluted food grade hydrogen peroxide to get the benefits of sanitation.

Also, if you plan to mix bleach with water, I suggest you use germicidal grade bleach, not the laundry stuff, best of luck.

Yeah I use stronger peroxide for sanitation, and plain unscented bleach.
