Do your fish have any quirks?

I just noticed that my Gold Gourami will swim in the bubble wall, but only when she knows I'm not watching her. I've woken up at 3 am to see my Gold Gourami swimming up and down in the bubble wall. The late night bubble wall sessions are really bizarre. What quirks, if any, do your fish have?

Several of my barbs eat the paint off of my decorations. They try and eat my fake plants too.

I've got a betta, too many quirks to list.
My gold gourami likes to pretend he's a juliI cory as well. He's always trying to school with them and then gets all upset when they won't let him.

Malcolm was a very quirky betta. I am noticing new stuff with HoudinI everyday I'm really loving it he's been such a distraction the most amusing is he is always rummaging for food I look over at his tank and I can see his tail wiggling in the air digging in the gravel and when he spots me looking he stops lol. He also has a nap in the afternoon which is very cute it's like he wears himself out bless. There are so many to list he is a joy to watch he does like to swim in the filter current like a water slide which I don't enjoy and tell him off when I catch him doing it oh and he likes peek a boo too

This is his usual position lol

And this one was taken the same day I got him he was so little bless.

He is called HoudinI because he escaped his bag whilst I was acclimatising him should have known he would be trouble then

Lol tell me about it I had to wake up HoudinI this morning for his breakfast I was a little late in feeding him so I guess he fancied a lie in lol.
He's only flared at me once and that was when I moved his bomb how dare I touch his things

Although just about all my species have quirks, my fave at the moment, is coming from Apache, my featherfin catfish. He has found a place in the tank where he can suspend himself in the water. He puts his chin on one rock, then the edge of his tail on a different rock. The rest of his body isn't resting on anything, it's literally suspended. I crack up every time I see him do this and he does it daily. I said to my husband "I wonder what Apache would think if I moved one of those rocks just enough that he can no longer reach. Holy Moly, I'm shrinking...... ACK!"

Lol he'd probably figure a way to push it back
Would love to see a picture

Lol daddy rules
Malcolm was very generous with his flares but HoudinI is a gentler fish well so far he is still a baby in my eyes

Every now and then I wake up for work and my featherfin will be floating upside down like a Upside down Catfish in the middle of the current from the canister.

I just added a co2 ladder to one of my tanks until I get a better defuser. one of my GBR has started defending it chasing others away. idk why but I turned of the bubbles and he stopped. I might have to take the ladder out to stop his aggression. maybe he thinks there his eggs idk

I have a darter that flares at my bettas. She will get right up nose to nose with them and flare her fins when they do. Other then that my DG is a sweetheart normally.

Technically, they ARE upside down catfish.

Drives my husband crazy. He has a featherfin, too and I'll hear him say "Geronimo, STOP doing that!" arty0009:

Today I found another quirk with my female Gold Gourami. She likes to introduce herself to new additions with her feelers. Today I put in two juvenile female sunburst platies, and after they got out of the bag the first thing she does is swim over to one and start feeling it with her feelers. The poor platy was scared out of her mind but I couldn't help but giggle a little bit. As I type this she's still following them around trying to touch them with her feelers, it's pretty funny.

She's so fond of these new tiny platies it's adorable. It even looks like she's trying to protect them from the grumpy Rainbow Shark, she just did a display of dominance when he attempted to approach them, and the shark backed off.

Lol good gourami hee hee. HoudinI has been a little pain tonight I got in from work and he was just hanging at the back of the tank doing nothing so I panicked and did an early water change and as I was pouring in the new water he decided he wanted to play in the water flow and has been swimming around like a looney ever since guess he was asleep again little monkey he drives me nuts sometimes. I've just had to tell him off for trying to eat a silk plant anyone would think he was starving I swear that fish eats better than me

Lol, well hopefully my new platies will soon learn the unspoken rules my fish have set forth in my tank. Right now they continue to break the 'Never EVER come near the Rainbow Shark's cave' rule. That rule is by far the most painful rule when it gets broken.

I hope so, I just don't want Mr. Shark to stress them to death before they figure it out. I'm banking on the fact that they're going to have babies, I think a lot of platies would make for a good dither for the shark.

They would certainly keep him distracted as long as he doesn't chase them all the time they should ok n as long as they learn to keep off his land

Yeah, and I figure once there are enough other fish in the tank the chasing will be spread out a lot.

She's still obsessing over those tiny platies. When they come out of the plants she rushes over to feel them with her feelers. Hopefully she'll get bored of them soon, I bought them to make my tank look more active.

Our juvie albino bristlenose pleco, Al, guards his algae wafers. He'll munch on them for a bit, then lay on it. He reminds us of those birds in Nemo.... "mine, mine, mine..." When swordtail Juanita comes around to sneak a bite, he runs her off. Every single time! So cute to watch!

I had a corydoras a bronze one called Alduin who used to bury the algae wafers and save them for later took me ages to figure out where the ammonia build up was coming from until I ruffled up the sand in his usual sleeping spot I was very annoyed at him but it was kinda cute

I have another quirk to share, surprised I didn't think of it earlier. If I drop shrimp pellets into the community tank, most of the fish are happy to dive bomb the pellets and try to break little bites off of them. Not Jacques, my amano shrimp. No, Jacques doesn't want to share a pellet with fish. I mean, really, how could you even consider that to be an option. Jacques will drive the fish away by poking them with his front legs, then he grabs the pellet and holds it with his legs and pumps his swimerettes about 300 miles an hour and swims up into the branches to settle down with his meal. He's such a hog!

Well, I think the platies have been established into the tank hierarchy quite well. They even ate today, one of them even plucked a flake right from the Gold Gourami's mouth, quite the ballsy move for such a tiny fish. The shark will still occasionally give chase, but for the most part he's more concerned with the flakes in the sand.

Excellent news sounds like the platies aren't scared of your gourami anymore

My betta likes to shake things up by doing something weird once, and not repeating it. The scariest was when I came home to find him against the filter intake (it has a sponge on it.) I watched him for. Few minutes, and he didn't move at all. As soon as I was convinced he was dead, he moved his eyes to look around. I thought he might be on the way out, but when I reached in, he swam off and acted totally normally. Little stinker. One thing he likes to do, though, is squeeze through tight places. It could be between a low lying leaf and the gravel, or a tight gap in driftwood.

Squeezing into tight places is a very bad habit for a fish to have. I've heard horror stories of fish getting stuck in ornaments that way.

Malcolm got stuck once when I first got him in a sma gap on the back of the filter cube of my chI that attached it to the tank couldn't find him anywhere and then I noticed a red tail sticking out I couldn't think of anything to do so I banged on the top and he came flying out I was not amused and quickly stuffed the hole with filter foam. He didn't hurt himself just scared me that was ages ago though thinking back it was a little funny as no harm was done

All this filter talk reminds me of my 20 gallon bowfront. I checked the filter box so infrequently I was shocked when I finally did open it one day and saw around 5 adult platies staring up at me. I figure they got sucked up as fry into the filter and gradually matured from the nutrients that were sucked into the box. It was pretty interesting watching them adapt to life outside the filter. I'm pretty sure things like color were almost unknown to them in the utter darkness of the filter box.

my gold barbs like to sneak up behind the shrimp just to scare them and make them swim away. I see this before lights out. no nipping but it's funny to see the barbs swim away when I catch them

Yeah he makes me nervous. Fortunately I don't think there's anything too tight for him in there. Of course, he could always find a way.

I've found cherry shrimp in one of my filters. I'm not sure how, since the intake has a sponge on it... It's a fairly course sponge, though, they must have gotten in when they were tiny.
