Do you test the water in the bag your new fish has come in from the pet store?

When I buy from online stores I rarely bother to... LOL. The fish and the water have been in that bag for a couple days that there isn't just a point. By that time I empty some of the bag water, add Prime, and slowly add a few cups of my tank water to acclimate them... I don't want the fish to stay in that water any longer.

It read as 160ppm before, and that was a much deeper, darker red than this. It's definitely between 40 and 80. Though if you can see the tiny portion of the tube that covers a little bit of the sample colour, it blends into 40ppm more. Maybe it's the picture, or my eyes aren't as good as I thought. 80 does seem to be the average for the LFS I test though.

Perhaps they raise the nitrates so if people do not drip acclimate, a high to low drop of nitrates is somewhat safe? Or maybe that the LFS do not have live plants

? Srry if i misread your post but nitrate swings I believe are just nitrate swings. It doesn't matter how high they are(I could be wrong). I think its just in shops a lot of the time there are a lot of fish and lack of maintenance.

Oops Yeah, definitely it takes a lot of maintenance to clean lots of tanks of all different sizes in the store. I would never be that responsible, haha.
