I have my BA in English and am currently in grad school to get my MA in Education so I can teach children to enjoy reading (and writing) as much as I do.

Good for you! All four of our children like to read and I think that is one reason they did well in school.

I must say that I have really never been into reading books... ever. The only books that I have read out of school is the lord of the rings trilogy. I read parts of the books that I get assigned in school... It depends on what the book is about though. I read johnny got his gun last year and it was the ONLY book that I enjoyed reading in highschool to date.

I used to hate reading. I swore books off for a while. I became engrossed in my equations and formulas in college. A few years into school I found that I had some extra time and saw that my profs who were as focused as me were myopic and almost simple. I decided to attack the classics that are so highly adored. When I am not reading for school or assignment, its much easier to enjoy them.
Later I found myself working part-time in a retail environment to get through school. The majority of my customers were stale-brained and stupid. I decided after I graduated that I would try to keep my brain sharp by reading challenging things. Now I read something scientific and something recreational. Its very healthy to keep your brain working and stretching in different directions or else become the middle aged woman who can't figure out how to put a pressure cooker lid on (it happened to me).
