I read about 4-10 books a week. I learned this speed reading techinque that increases my reading speed to 800 words a minute. I can't get to the next stage though. My dad is way faster than me he reads at like 1500 words a minute. Sometimes I just read slower in bed though. It is much more enjoyable. I would like to subscribe to a fish magazine but I spend all my money on fish. ;D

Beeboy
I can read up to 6 books a week if I have the time.

I voted yes. And that is true for me. However, just because I like it doesn't mean I do it often

Nevertheless, my most enjoyable ones will be those that are very descriptive. I love it when the author describes it so vividly that I can almost feel the whole scenery. And it doesn't all have to be visual. If they are descriptive in any of the senses its great. For example, Paranoia kept me tense, nervous and paranoid all through out lol.

Just finished two books by Rob Thurman.

Urban fantasy.

Nightlife and Moonshine are his two books currently out.

Both books are written first person by a guy who is half demon and on the run from his fathers side of his family.

Love to read. I read on the average of one to two books a week.
Have got three of the new David Eddings books he wrote with his wife Leigh Eddings called The Elder Gods, The Treasured One and The Crystal Gorge. I think I have read everything else he has written.
Finishing up a Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey ,Kushiels dart, Kushiels chosen and next is Kushiels avatar.
the new Loach book is due out the end of November this year . YAY!!! It was four years in the making

Not too great a fan of Sci-fi... when unimaginative character A ends up in predictable terrible situation B, I have to put the book down. I used to read some Terry Brooks, though.

I'm really into 19th century Russian lit. at the moment. Read Dead Souls by Gogol and hacking away at the monsters Dostoevsky called 'novels'. The Brothers Karamazov had over 400 words per page, on average, and it was over 750 pages. Good book, though
Crime and Punishment was amazing, and Demons was pretty good too. Buying Anna Karenina by Tolstoy and a collection of Gogol's short stories (The Nose was highly recommended..) as well as The Plague by Albert Camus. And maybe a collection of Kafka's short stories. Depends on how much cash I end up having when I get to Borders.

My wife and I both love to read. Sci-Fi, fantasy, horror and Classic Literature are my faves. SWMBO likes medical and law whodunnit's and Jackie Collins books. Never mind the mess, we are in the middle of remodeling the family room, so the overflow of stuff like CD's and boxes of random stuff ended up in the den.

Well, if you consider reading books with such titles as "Spot Goes to School" and Curious George, then... yea, I love to read books... but with a 5 year old and 2 year old twins, there isn't much time for real "adult" books, but I do enjoy magazines...

like Aquarium Fish International!!

funny seeing this topic thread pop up again.
Are there any Dean Koontz fans out there? OMMGGGGod... I can read about two of his books a week and am constantly searching for his books in thrift stores, yardsales and used book shops. He has had so many books published I don't know if I will be able to get to them all, but can say the list of his books that I have read is getting longer and longer all the time.
He is one amazing talented author. Anyone read his book, called
"Brother ODD"? wow.. great book and part of a trilogy. I'm really lost when I do not have one of his books going all the time. ;D I really love to read..

I don't know how anybody can "not" like to read books I love books Certianly MUCH better than most of the you watch on TV! Sorry if I'm offending someone who likes to watch a lot of TV. But it's really true that less and less people are reading books. And this is because of TV. And TV wouldn't be a problem if it had more truth in its news and more educational programs instead of all the violence and other highly inappropriate scenes in movies. American children are not learning anything from TV today. That's why I consider books MUCH better than watching today's TV. Does that mean I never watch TV? No, I do watch TV, but not THAT much. I like Science, National Geographic, Animal Planet channels, etc ... And yeah, I watch a movie on cable from time to time.

CWC and myself are going to see the writing team of Jefferson/Bass, Thursday night.

They write the Body Farm novels.

The Body Farm is part of the forensics school at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

This facility is used to train future techs by actually placing dead bodies in the ground ( and other locations) and allowing the techs to observe what happens to the human body as it decomposes.

Here is a short article on the Body Farm.

I must have been half asleep last nite when I responded either that or I am reading so many dean koontz books that I'm getting them mixed up!
The bad Place was the book I read just before reading "Fear Nothing" which had the charactor Chris Snow. The Bad Place was a great book! the two detectives, the downs syndrome child and a very strange genetically altered family of siblings !

I have not found one book of his that I didnt like.. Doesnt matter what I pick up by him I am going to be distracted from everything else that needs to be done til the book is finished! lol..

I like to read once in a While.
My favorite book is Petey.
Sec fav would probebly be Eragon, I'm reading for school.

I read a book called Illegal Alien (NOT WHAT YOU THINK!) It's about an advanced race of aliens from a planet around CentuarI A. A scientist is found murdered, and everything points towards an alien.
It's somewhat confusing at the parts were their in court, but it's good. They keep talking about the 1st OJ case...lol

Dino and Dr. Bill Bass as he was signing our 9 books and doing so happily. Such a great speaker!

The man is 81 years old and had more energy than most people in their 30s. He certainly kept the attention of every audience member, not a peep... even out of any unlucky children whose parents may have drug them to the event. (Not a topic for children, in my opinion.)

He showed x-rays taken of the body of 'The Big Bopper' last June, when he, by the request of 'The Big Bopper's' family exumed the body and did an autopsy. The man had been in the ground for over 48 years and was so well preserved, he said, that you could look at the body and at 'The Big Bopper junior' and tell they are related. So interesting. The things that man has seen in his life... amazing to say the least.

He was so enthused that people cared enough to come listen, and offered the audience several times the chance for him to shut-up and them get out of there on-time, but everyone wanted him to keep talking, and would've certainly listened for hours more, if he would've kept talking.

I certainly will be reading his 2 fiction books and 2 non-fiction books the moment I am finished with the current series of books I am reading.

EDIT: Notice Dino 'representing' with his t-shirt with a nice koi design, can't tell so well in the picture, but it is a koi on the shirt.

1. Reading is THE BEST!!! We had such crappy weather every time we were at the cabin - I read 20 books!! ( A glass of wine helps) I always have a book on the go. My unachieved dream - owning a book store....

2. Dr, Bill Blass - how interesting...seems like a very cool person to meet and listen to - you guys always have something cool to share - so glad we met!!

3. Dino, you look EXACTLY the way I pictured you - ( I have a gift, what can I say??)

4. The Big Bopper - OMG - I remember ( & have some of ) his music and kinda when he was killed.. plane crash - ( I have an older brother, there was no tv - music was the bomb!!) Yikes- actually I am a younger reincarnation of myself, and a very sweet young-ish person!! ( Please don't hold my age against me....) You would never guess..

This is todays " Guess what I learned today " moment, with your Dr. Bill Blass. TSM

I'm currently reading the Retriever series of books by Laura Anne Gilman. They are set in modern day where there is magic, but not the same as you hear about in most stories. There are people called 'Talents' and then there are 'Mages' which are 'Talents' that have banded together into a hierarchy of politics and magic. There is also a group called the Cosa Nostradamus that is made up of 'Talents' and demons and angels and other creatures that are thought to not have really existed.

The magic in this book is based on current, yes, like eletrical current. The 'Talents' draw current from their surroundings and use it to teleport, hide themselves, bend people's will, learn information, etc. The main character is Wren, she's a wry younger lady (20s-30s) that is "not-a-thief-but-a-retriever" as she calls herself. It is a series of books filled with politics, murder plots, thievery, a little romance that is drawn out into a suspensefilled comedy routine, and a lot more. I am in book two of three, and would recommend the series to anyone that enjoys any of the above mentioned stuff.

Also, if it hasn't been mentioned, the Weather Warden series by Rachel Caine. I've only read 3 of the books in that series, I think there is 5 or 6... but very interesting Fantasy series.
