Some synthesizers just don't qualify for me.

I'm gonna have to go the "you know, there are folks who said the same thing about electric guitars and other electric instruments" route again. ;D

I totally get what you mean about certain sounds you don't like, though (twangy country makes me want to de-drum my ears with an oyster fork).

Hehehe, glad you recognize them!
I don't know how I've missed them actually... I mean I am the queen of prog...

You're making yourself sound like an old man, you know. "back in the day, people didn't like those fancy 'lectric gee-tars"

I HATE COUNTRY!!! Except like very very early country, which is the only stuff I'd really call country... newer 'country' is more like pop/rock with twangy vocals....

Gah!!! The Hammond rules the universe!!!
My dear Rick Wright (rip ) made those keys sing!

Control your drooling!! lol.
I listen to rock, alternative, metal, classical, jazz, new age.
I'm not a fan of country, pop, or rap.
There are very FEW exceptions of these genres that I like.

I suggest following that link for some organ loving, especially after the 5:00 mark (watch the "high quality version"...don't know how to link that directly). Hammond organs were the defining sound of 70s rock for me.

Actually, I've been thinking that's what you ladies have been sounding like, what with your "that ain't no real music."

Clearly you haven't been exposed to the right bands or did not give them the proper patience they deserve.

Well, what bands are you talking about?
Classic metal? New metal? Heavy metal? Hair metal? lol.
There's so many kinds.
I listen to System of a Down, Disturbed, Korn, but I'll also throw in some Rammstein, Metallica, Black Sabbath for good measure.

heavy metal.

Amanda

Guess it depends on the band.
Like Cannibal Corpse?
SOunds like he swallowed the mic & is trying to cough it back up.

jgon_
  • #57
probably my first or second favorite metal band, The Lord Weird Slough Feg

But aside from traditional heavy metal (above), I'm a big fan of progressive, death, black (1st and 2nd wave only), avant garde, fusion, technical, thrash (actually only about 4 thrash bands) etc...I'm a stickler for specifying subgenres.

Amanda
  • #58
My friend Destin was crazy with the subgenres of metal.
I like prog metal, Dream Theatre.

I've heard that description of SoaD dozens of times.

Because I've heard others make the description?

I mean, I kind of agree. A few of my favorite bands are of the "shove mic down throat and scream" genre.

Lol.
There are a few iffy songs with SOAD. But overall, if it's mainly Serge, it's usually good.
I can think of a few songs that people hearing it for the first time would think were off the wall though.

Ah, but it's still the minority of metal. Most metal singers are more melodic than Serj is (not that SoaD can be pidgeon-holed into a single genre).
I get that metal is more jangling than some people would enjoy, though. My parents are like that. Not that they don't listen to new music. My dad was on top of some new, popular bands more than I was when I was in high school.

Ok, maybe one growl.

What about BYOB? Can the cry of "Why do they only send the poor?" be called anything other than screaming into/around the mic?

By the way, John Dolmayan is a crazyman, and doesn't actually follow much of a rhythm. I've started listening more to the drums in the music I listen to since I became my family's default drummer in Rock Band.

I enjoy bands like Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, and In Flames. All of those coughing up the mic kind of bands. I also absolutely love power metal like Dragonforce, Amon Amarth, and ManOwar. And of course the classic metal like Iron Maiden and Metalica. But what I don't like is rap, pop, and modern rock... For some reason I just cannot stand modern rock.

Not a fan of 50 cent. My favorite band is My Chemical Romance. I also love Hurt, Dir En Gray (a metal band from Japan), Cake, A Perfect Circle, and so on and so on.

. I work with the drummer. If you let me know what you think, I'll pass it on to them.

There's nothing like old school Metallica.

Pearl Jam, Beetles, Skynard, Floyd, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Willie Nelson, Merl Haggard, Finger Eleven, 311, Everclear, DMX(Only rapper I've really ever really liked - used to listen to him in high school and college during track practice or 5 minutes before one of my races.. really got the blood moving ).. so yea that pretty much sums up my music tastes. Southern Rock/country with a little bit of that other stuff
