Do you know someone who hated fish before you got some?

I see pictures of parents who don’t want an animal but end up loving it anyway. That’s my mom to a T. She had fish almost her whole adult life, but decided after her last tank that she didn’t want to deal with them. I fought for about 5 years to get my own tanks and fish. She didn’t want my tetras and especially didn’t want the sick ugly betta fish I rescued.

Now though? Now every time she walks past my room she stops in to see my fish, blow them kisses, and baby talks to them! She read that bettas are curious so now she has a “weekly show and tell” for my betta. During which time she holds little decorations or baubles in front of his tank for him to inspect! (This week it was a small alligator toy she bought to show him)

Anyone else have any funny/cute stories to share about family or roommates who now love your fish? I would love to hear them all!

My dad won't support my fish hobby one bit, but yet he loves to sit in front of my tank and stare at them.

As science is well aware, people who hate fish are objectively worse humans than people who love them.

some even say fish haters are soulless, but that’s not for me to say. . .

My wife thought bettas were pretty boring. She has come around on that after watching my bettas the last few years, though she is a believer that a person only needs 1 of them TOTAL!! Of course, she now has a platy tank for last 2-3 years...

Recent studies have shown that people that hate fish are mentally ill and may need rehabilitation to get their brain in right mind. People that have fish are scientifically better than people that do not like fish. That is a fact.

I had a dwarf gourami that had a platy friend. Couple of days ago, we had to separate the platy for dropsy, and when the platy was separated the gourami is now very, very sad. "Fish are soulless" huh?

Like those dads that don't want the family to get the dog but when they get the dog they're best friends.

Haha. That's funny cause that is EXACTLY what happened with our dog too.

We dads gotta be tough! The cats and dogs always see the SUCKER signs written on our foreheads though....fish can be a different story. I always support the kids if they want the pets but i am kind of hard about it. At some point you have to learn if you want things to live, you need to take care of it. And even then, everything dies in the end, anyway. So enjoy your critters while you have them and take care of them!

My husband thought Bettas are just fou-fou fish, but he is now fully converted and fascinated by the personality and fighting spirit (how he recovered from my inexperienced mistakes) of Big Red, and the way he just interacts.
