Do you have to keep adding ammonia to feed your bacteria?

I am currently cycling a 5.5 gallon. It has suddenly gotten to the point where I can put in 2ppm of ammonia in the morning and at night have 0ppm. Should I keep dosing the ammonia to give the bacteria a steady food source? Nitrites began rising two days ago and are through the roof now. I'm waiting for the cycle to start changing the nitrites to nitrates now. So, does the bacteria need a food source? Aka should I dose 2ppm ammonia every 12 hours? This is my first fishless cycle.

No need for every 12 hours twice a week will be fine.

Okay, just making sure I won't starve out the bacteria.
