Do these guys look to be breeding size? How long did it take your shrimp to start breeding?

I apologize for the horrendous photos, honestly not a fan of this phones photo quality. I think the phone camera makes them look a tad bigger compared to in person.

I'm hoping they start breeding soon, I had some for a few weeks, but they were very small, but the super orange ones I got maybe 3-5 days ago (plus, some more yesterday.) I lost 4 shrimp which was unfortunate, so I'm hoping they end up breeding to expand the colony.

When did your shrimp start breeding? I remember my red neos years ago bred very quickly, but I'm not sure about how these guys are gonna go.

Yeah they definitely look big enough. My cherries started breeding a month after I got them, but its different for everyone.

Thanks, I just hope they all stay stable until they breed, since I lost a few, so I'm worried about losing more.

I believe they become sexually mature quite young, around 1 cm in size. feel free to correct me if im wrong though

Although there are some large females there I can see no saddled ones, sexual maturity is around 5 months, 4 at a push,
I.like the colour

I'm actually not sure on the age, the high grade ones (super orange) are imported, but not sure on the age. The others are juvies, not too big but had them maybe for 2-3 weeks now, and then there's another one I got from a different breeder that still isn't that high, and small too, so had those for about 1-2 weeks.

Most dont leave shrimp go until they're 9 weeks old so that's a good average for you to assess yours
Can try and get some pictures looking down onto them because some of them have racing stripes that can mask the saddle

Sure, a picture from the top or, on an angle?

You not get one from direct top of tank so its an angle shot and as close as possible, take a few of different large shrimp

Sorry if these photos are awful, my phone camera isn't the best. I'll try to take way better photos tomorrow.

Oh really? Two with the saddle?

I wonder if it's because I'm not doing something right. Like maybe there isn't enough biofilm, since this taken has been overrun with snails for quite some time. I lost 4, but it could've been the way they acclimated.

Fed them Aqueon Herbivore (I need better food), and Zucchini the other day, but tomorrow will give them blood worms. Not sure the GH/KH. But 0 Ammonia/0 Nitrite/0 or under 5 ppm nitrate. Temp was 83 F (heater was overheating) now it's 80-81 F. Trying to get it to 79 F.

So I wonder if any of those may be an issue.

The temperature is a little high turn it straight down to 72f 22.5c and let the tank cool itself, its possible the 4 you lost were the weakest of the bunch and couldn't take the acclamation
Get yourself some Bactor AE only a small tub it will work wonders but come back here for dosing don't follow the tub instructions,
As well as cooked zucchini try cooked kale or blanched spinach, and cooked broccoli all those are great, too many snails can pollute your water so keep them under control.
Don't go down the road of thinking you are not doing something right as this leads to spontaneous decisions that will backfire
Shrimp are easy to keep but certain sudden change can harm or even kill them so until you get your head around how they work and what's needed to survive keep posting questions there's always someone about
Keeping an eye on your water perameters is important for them gh/kh are two tests in one API test kit then ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate once you have them and understand what to look for you'll be fine, dont worry its all simple and straight forward.

I ordered Bactor AE, just waiting for it to come in. Fed them blood worms yesterday & spinach, had the spinach in there since last night, till now but just took it out.

Still need to get the Gh/KH test kit, but fortunately no more losses.

If you don't put the spinach in boiling water for 30 seconds you find the shrimp.cant tear it apart, the fact it's a new food takes a bit of coksing, dont feed them anything for 24hrs then try again keep doing that till they come round
Don't feed thd two together they don't need .bloodworm is good protein which aids the reproductive system

I put it in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, they did tear it apart nicely! Had it in there for awhile too, it was almost all gone. They loved it. I'm going to take more photos of them, I think I am seeing saddles, but I can't tell, if it's food, or something else.
I think these 3 (might be more) possibly might be saddled. Second day of them like this.
Looks like I just lost another shrimp, 2-3 days without loss, now another one.

I don’t have a GH/KH test kit yet, but this is what happens. They get all funky, and fall and swim derpy and die.
