Do shrimp eat brown algae?

Hey everyone. I have a 29 gallon tank that currently houses 9 female betas, 4 neon tetras, 4 peppered corys and some baby mystery snails. I will hopefully be adding 2 more tetras and corys. I really want to get a pleco, but I've been warned that they're such a mess and I kinda wanted this to be a low tech tank... anyway, nobody thought I should do that so I'm thinking of other options. I know from experience that I'll have a massive brown algae bloom in about 1-3 weeks (new tank). The mystery snails I don't believe eat the brown algae.
Do shrimp eat brown algae?
Will my corys or bettas eat the shrimp?
Pros and cons of shrimp?
What are they useful for?
Thanks!

Pro of shrimps: everything, they're cute & adorable & fun to watch as they constantly pick at stuff to eat.
Cons of shrimps: none.
Okay, so I'm a HUGE shrimp lover.
As far as brown algae goes - nerite snails. They can be difficult to keep alive, especially when you first add them to the tank. But, mine go NUTS for brown algae & have cleared it up almost without my help at all. And I only have 2 nerites.

Lol. So shrimp do or don't eat the brown algae? I've tried nerites before any they've always died. Not going to try them again.

I honestly don't think they eat brown algae. I had an issue with it & they didn't clear it up. So, I went with snails & it's been much, much better.

I've had good luck with multiple types of algae eaters for multiple types of algae. I keep a mix of otocinclus catfish, snails and BN plecos and between them they seem to run the range of different algae blooms they like to eat. Keep some algae wafers on hand and blanch some vegetables when needed and you're good to go. Have 5 otos, 2 siamese cats and snails in my work tank and they've cleaned up black beard and brown algae well. I'd like to add a BN or similar smaller pleco(s) eventually. Only issue is with Blue-Green algae that the cleanup crew wont touch as it's toxic to many fish.

Thanks! What size tank? I've heard that you have a low shot at getting otos to survive though...

I have a 120gal with 4 BN, 8 Otos and 5 mystery snails; my 40gal at work has 4 Otos, 2 Siamese and about 10 Trapdoor snails after they've been breeding. I didn't add the otos until about 4 months in; I vacuum it regularly and use both a HOB filter and a sponge to keep water as clean as possible. Haven't had any problems but may have lost 1/5. Key is to ensure there's plenty of food available so be prepared to supplement algae with additional food sources as needed. They don't really respond to algae wafers so do some research on other food sources that work well.

After my experience with them I wouldn't encourage anyone to get otos. I will agree with Bettybrown922 about nerite snails doing a good job on brown algae.
