Do Platys appreciate the company of other breeds of platys?

I just got two beautiful Dalmatian Platys (male and female, but I'm going to exchange that female into a male).

They are always hanging out together in the tank, so I assume they appreciate the company of other Platys. I want to get 4 more -- 2 twinbar gold and 2 blue mickey mouse platy. Their body shapes look pretty similar but of course coloring is very different.

Will they end up hanging out with each other? Will they recognize each other as the same species the way the two Dalmatian platys are?

Also, is there anything wrong with all male? (I want to get all male or all female to avoid babies.)

Platys are platys and will readily breed with other platy types. Some are aggressive some are shy, and some don't care. You never now what you're going to get so best to observe them before purchasing. But that's no guarantee they'll play well in your tank.

I'd also just get all male. The females may already be pregnant before you bring them home.

Thanks guys! I will get all males and also observe the Platys closely to make sure they will get along.

We only have two platys and they hang out together most of the time. Not sure if that helps or not
