Do I Need To Give Shrimps Calcium Source?

I'm wondering if I have to give them some kind of calcium supplements. Or can I just let them have algae, moss, decaying stuff and algae wafers (what they are eating pretty much) and will they find? Or do I need to feed something else? I just saw posts people giving them calcium supplements so I worried if they might have lack of calcium. I have marimo balls, abinus, java fern, flame moss, rcs, nerite snail. I want them to breed eventually and have happy life

I put a couple pieces of cuttlebone in my filter box after I lost my bamboo shrimp to a bad molt a year ago, and I've had amanos thriving in there ever since. I can't say that's definitely the reason, but it can't hurt anyway, a cuttlebone costs less than $3 and you can get it at the grocery store in the pet food aisle. I'm sure mine is harboring plenty of bacteria too. I try to stay away from additives other than prime unless it's a last resort, so I tried cuttlebone first because I have it for my birds and it seemed better to have something that would dissolve slowly instead of needing to be dosed.

What kind of water are you using? Your tap water may already have enough calcium in it. I'm not positive, as this is new for me, but I think there is a way to test it and see if your calcium is sufficient. I've kept red cherry shrimp and ghost shrimp so far with no problems only using tap water and haven't needed to add any extra calcium. Also, when they molt, leave the shell in the tank, they will eat it and it contains calcium and minerals for them.

Be careful if your using drinking water bought at the store. If its ro water then you need to buffer it with tap water. Ro water doesn't have the minerals and buffers in it. So you will need to add those back in.
