Do I Have To Put Aquarium Filter In Corner?

Hey everyone I got a question. Why when you put a filter in a fish tank you have to put it in the corner? What would happen if you put it in the middle if you could? I'm just curious ya know.

It would filter the water exactly the same as it does in the corner.

Usually in the corner it is just more out of the way and easier to cover with plants and other decorations so that it is not the center attraction.

it would probably filter better...just because it can swirl the water on both sides of it's output.
I've never tested it or anything...but that seems likely.

The Aquaclear HOB that is on my 30gal tall, is in the middle.....and it's ok.

If I have a hood that has the hole in the corner, I put the filter there. Otherwise, I put the filter in the middle.

I put the filters wherever they fit. In my long tank, I've got a little refugium-like setup to keep the water flowing and provide some extra water movement.
An ideal setup in a large tank is a filter that has input at one end and output at the other (or powerheads to keep the water flowing)
I think that, usually, the corner setup is aesthetic, as Newbeefishlover suggested. Easier to cover up that way.
