Do I have to clean the glass of my tank?

Do I have to clean the glass of my tank? how often? It doesn't look dirty.

I don't have a cleaning crew. I was thinking of getting some otos but I really can't tell the difference between them and the bigger algae eaters, and since the LFS people don't seem help, I don't want to risk getting the wrong one.

look at there little section on fishlore, there pretty easy to tell the difference of. and if they grow more then 2 inches u know there not otos.

I wouldnt worry about it to much unless there is a lot of algae build up.

If you're worrying about cleaning the glass of the tank, u could get a magnetic cleaner that works pretty well.

You don't have to clean the inside of your tank glass at all if you don't want to. People usually clean their glass when it becomes dirty with algae (if they don't have algae eaters to clean the glass). If you have effective algae eaters, you don't need to clean the glass either as they do the job for you.

I see you have the following fish in your 40 gallon tank: 1 black moor goldfish, 1 yukon goldfish, 2 bala sharks, 4 blackskirt tetras, 2 angelfish, 1 dwarf gram, 2 zebra danios, 1 pluck. (From the link in your signature) Is that right?

Just a comment about Goldfish: They're not exactly good tank mates for any tropical freshwater fish because they like to be in cooler water, while all tropical fish like warm water.

Also, Gouramis don't mix well with Angelfish either.

Besids, with 2 Goldfish and 2 Bala Sharks alone, your tank is VERY overstocked! Bala Sharks need a tank around at least 120 gallons. Not to mention the rest of fish.

Sorry for the bad news :-\

Anyway, if you're getting a lot of algae, the best solution is to get an algae eater. You could get either of the 3 species for a 40 gallon tank: a bunch of Otos, Bristlenose Pleco, or the True Siamese Flying Fox. But, I wouldn't recommend getting any more fish for your tank as it is already overstocked.

P.S. If the list of your fish in the link is wrong, and the one given in your signature is right, then I am sorry for all the comments

I have to change the first post the My Tank thread.
What I have right now is what it says in my signature:

6 blackskirt tetras
1 angelfish
1 dwarf gourami
2 zebra danios
1 platy

I don't really see any algae in the tank.

In that case, your 40 gallon tank is not overstocked What happened to the other Angelfish, Bala Sharks, and Goldfish? Anyway, if your tank glass is clean, then you don't need an algae eater at all (unless you have live plants covered in algae). If, however, you still want an algae eater, then you still have space for it considering your current stocking level. You could get either of the three: 1 Bristlenose Pleco, 1 Siamese Flying Fox (the true one), or a couple of Otos. If you get Otos, make sure your water is very clean at all times. If you don't want any algae eater(s) now, don't get any, but leave some space for them in case you start getting algae in the future (which you most likely will). Unless, you'll be cleaning the glass yourself, or unless you're OK with algae. Some algae types, such as green algae, can even look attractive in a tank

The Angelfish died 4 days ago.
I returned the goldfish and the sharks to the LFS a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for the advice.

I am sorry about your Angelfish And as for the Goldfish and Bala Sharks, I know it's not easy having to give up your fish, but overstocking isn't any better either. We have to make difficult choices sometimes :-\
