Do fish need organic veggies?

When you feed fish veggies do you do organic? Can they have normal microwave broccolI that isn't organic? Also how do you prepare the broccoli? I usually do organic peas and zucchinI but I figured I'd try something new.

I don't buy specifically organic for me or my fish. If the broccolI is frozen all you really need to do is thaw it out in some warm water. It will be soft enough once thawed. I normally feed fresh zucchinI but do have some in the freezer for those time when I run out of fresh. Freezing and then thawing seems to soften it up as much or even more than microwaving fresh.

Okay so do you just put the whole thing in without cutting it?

I've never fed broccolI but if I did I would cut the florets down the middle just as I do with zucchini. I do it with zucchinI to remove the seeds though.

I've fed organic and non organic. Like mattgirl, I just buy what's available. I prefer organic honestly as it tastes significantly better, specifically in meats. I'm sure it has health benefits too. But that's a whole other discussion on its own lol. Costco has been getting a lot of organic food lately though so I'm buying mainly that. But I used to feed my pleco plenty of non-organic veggies and my community fish plenty of non-organic peas without issues.

I think cooking and blanching the food is mainly so it breaks apart easier for small fish to eat. Since we keep relatively small fish compared to wild fish in this hobby, blanching has become a common practice.

There are certain sanctuaries I scuba dive at where the fish are by no means wild animals and are friendlier than most pet dogs. Tons of human interaction and tons of feeding makes them this way. But most people either feed them fish pellets or raw peas. They eat them just fine and are super healthy. No need to blanch.

IMHO I think the whole organic vs non is overstated... I don't feed my kids organic fruit and veg, I wasn't fed it growing up... I've read up on pesticide use on our foods wen we were deciding whether we should go organic with our kids... after a lot of reading, a few things emerged.. first, the health risk/dangers of pesticides is overblown, second, if you wash you fruits and veg very well, yo actually DO remove a lot/most of the residual stuff.

The contrarian in me tends to feel this is a money-making scam.. As a side note I have a very good friend who grew up on organic, ate extremely well her whole life and exercised like a fiend. Unfortunately, she is now dying of cancer. Her father also died of it, so she chalks it up to genetics unfortunately...

Our fish have a very short lifespan.. these chemicals are supposedly dangerous over a long period of time as they are supposed to accumulate in fatty body tissue. Honestly I know my post may raise some eyebrows and/or upset some people, but I don't think our fish are any better or worse off using organic vs non-organic. Save your money.
