Does a firemouth like to dig in the substrate? I have one that I want in a dirted tank, just need to know if he’ll make a mess?

From what I've read, they love digging, especially during spawning.

Oh no! Firemouths are such beautiful cichlids. If you do rehome him I hope he gets a good owner

Most cichlids that are big enough love digging. There is no way around it. They are extremely curious about their environment. My severum likes to suck up and spit gravel all over the aquarium. Not to mention I have to replant my tank several times per week. He leaves most plants of my plants alone but seems to love ripping my water sprites from the gravel. He does it deliberately.
