Hello Armadillo...
YES.. lol... female bettas do flare. I found out when I had added another female in the ten gal w/ divider with my female Precious. I was surprised, since Precious is such a sweetie pie.. welllll... not! lol.. another female got her attention and she didnt like it one bit! lol...

My females flare at each other and at the males. They seem to like each other and often play and chase each other back and forth along the divider but they do flare too.

Mine two girls didn't get along at all..but no injuries...they'd flare out at each other all the time.

when we first started out and the 'fish expert' recommended a sorority tank, we saw LOTS of flaring out of the female bettas! the 3 female splendens that we have now have never flared.

My female flares all the time. It's funny seeing her trying to puff out her gills...she's so small and yet she thinks she looks so vicious...

Honey flares if she catches sight of Spot. Their tanks are next to each other and I have covered the side of her tank to avoid stressing them but if I am cleaning the tanks I'll let them interact for half an hour or so, she is funny but he just looks at her like a big dope! I HAVE NOT seen Spot Flare once though!! EVER!!

they are so individual, aren't they? angel sees mickey and will swim back & forth excitedly, but won't flare and mickey struts his stuff when he sees angel.
