do they develop more blue as they age? I have one that is getting blue but the rest have no blue. I have 4 zebras, 1 clown, and 1 blushing(starting to get a lot of blue). also how do you classify an angel by finnage? like I have 2 standards, 1 that has miniature fins, 1 that has long fins, and one that has even longer fins.
thanks

I only know because I've been following Lexi03's thread, but they do develop more blue as they age. I think she said they'd be fully blue after maybe 2 years or so, but don't quote me on that figure I believe the long finned-angels are called veiltails, but I'm definitely no angel expert.

Hi,

Yes, they develop more blue as they age. Fish with a double dose of the blue gene nearly always develop a lot of blue. Other fish with only a single dose do not always develop the blue. Standard fined angels have shorter fins. There are three types of standard fins that I know of. Normal, wide, and narrow. Narrow standards are fairly rare and I've only seen them a couple times. Wide standards have very wide fins with rounded edges. Usually the fins are shorter than normal standard fins. Long fins can be divided up into many many categories. It looks like you are only dealing with veil and super veil. The fish with extremely long fins is most likely a superveil. If I can see pictures of each fish that would be great.

#1 Standard fin Zebra- Female.
#2 Standard fin Zebra - Female.
#3 Standard fin Ghost Zebra (Blushing gene) - Male.
#4 Veil Zebra - Female.
# 5 Veil Blue Panda - Female.

I'm guessing on the sexes by the way. I'm not positive.

do females generally get along? I was thinking of just keeping the first one and the last 2. is the first one just a regular standard bc its fins are a lot shorter than the other 2 I mean look at the ones up front.

I thought blushing was the red thing around the gills?

The fins up front on #1 (the ventral vins) look deformed.

Yes, generally females will get along. Sometimes you get an aggressive one though. If they are all fine together now I think you don't have to worry about it. Yeah the first one looks like a regular standard fin. If you mean the little feelers under her mouth (ventral fins) those aren't what tells the difference between fin type. As LexI said, they do look either deformed or they were bitten off in a fight.

ok so if I do just those three do I go ahead and sell the other two now? how much should I sell them for? also would this stocking work with 3?
3-angels
1-festivum
8-northern mountain swordtails(could be less they are juvies now and ill need the proper ratio)
10-cherry barbs
2-green bristlenose plecos
2-rams
8-juliI corys or some other catfish? in a 55 gallon.

I think that's a little heavy on stocking personally. Did you get your angels from a breeder?

what would you change? I can do less swordtails. I think I want 3 syno petricola instead of the corys.

Cut out the catfish and lower the number of Swordtails.

Hahaha. You got them from Joe G eh? Hm.. well I would sell them as single dose PBs then. You might be able to get $10 a piece but I doubt it.

could I take out one angelfish instead of the catfish? how many swordtails total? can I do all males?

is joe pretty popular? id like to see how these angels come out for other people.

I'm growing out 9 of them from Joe G (it was 10, but a runt lost his ventral fins in the bag on the trip home somehow). I live about 30 minutes from him so I was able to pick them up locally and see his setup. His Discus are quite amazing. The angels are P. Blue crossed with German Blue Veils nearing quarter sized and showing some blue in certain light, some more than others.

He feeds them a pretty robust beefheart mix, and I've had problems getting them to eat anything but frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. They spit out the Angel flakes I got from Angelsplus (or any flake for that matter) and a few of them will nibble on the stuff that hits the bottom with my Cory's (algae wafers, sinking wafers, cichlid crisps, shrimp pellets and NLS thera + 1mm's). I'm about to starve them out for a day or two and then try the advice from Angelsplus to get them to eat them as a staple diet, but they're growing fast and eating healthy at least.

Ehh... I suppose you could. You will need some pretty good filtration IMO. I would do a trio of swords. For every male sword you need a minimum of two females.

Hahah popular isn't the right word exactly. I had a lot of difficulties dealing with him. I've spoken to other breeders that have gotten fish from him and they say some of his fish are nice to look at but are no good for breeding. He crossbred some strains that really don't produce nice fish. I got angels from him but unfortunately they were diseased and pretty much killed off my entire stock. So I wasn't happy with him at all at the time. I'm sure it was a mistake but it still was careless.

Zevyn, I'm glad you have had a positive experience with JoeG! One of the first ones I've heard. As for your angelfish I would do what Angelsplus is recommending. Fast your angels for a day and then feed a little bit of flakes. Then the next day feed a little bit of flakes. If they don't eat any fast them a third time and feed them some veggies or something like that. I would take them off blood worms and brine shrimp completely for a while. They'll get used to eating normal food soon enough .

I have a tetra 30-60 on the tank and an aquarech 30-60. I'm gonna add a canister eventually. I would sell the one catfish I have but id ruin my tank trying to get him out. if I moved out a bristlenose what could I do? I really wanna keep the catfish and the three angels. maybe I could keep my 29 and move a pleco the swordrails my cpds and my endler to it with some pygmy cory?

Swordtails will eat CPDs. What do you mean by 'green bns'? If you don't add the corries to the 29 gallon that would work. I'm assuming it is a tall and not a long. If it is a long you can have the corries .

so a swordtail could eat an endler?

Full grown ones can. Swords get pretty big . Most people don't realize that because sometimes they don't reach their full potential due to being kept in small tanks, especially when they are young.
