Do bettas have teeth?

do bettas have teeth?? someone on this forum said something strengthens their teeth and scales. I was unaware of teeth, I am going to have to take a closer look.

In fact I think I've even seen RJ's teeth when he opens his mouth wide. I saw something white in there and it looked like little teeth Natalie

 

Yep, they have teeth.  They're not up front and easy to see from what I understand.  But, if you feed them Betta bits like Atison's and listen carefully, you can hear them chewing.  It's pretty neat.

I guess I have seen my bettas chew, but I thought they were just "gumming"-- lol.

LOL.. if there were a betta like that, I think a lot of us would be less tempted to let them take food off our fingers.

When I was a brand new fishie owner, I decided to take a Q-tip and clean around the edge of the tank and my first betta, Azul, thought it was some new food thing and got his TEETH in the cotton of it and PULLED. He yanked it out of my hand he had such a death grip on it. Yes, they do indeed have teeth and if you ever get nipped, even in play, you will feel them. If they are after each other in anger, they can draw blood with those little choppers. Vampire Bettas ...... nah... not for me.

LOL That's funny Rose. I can just see Azul with a Q-tip in his mouth cleaning the tank by himself. Those teeth can come in handy!
