I decided to stop in PetSmart since was out shopping and it's right there. Looking at the betta and see this beauty just laying at bottom of his cup of poopy water looking depressed. I got a couple danios for another tank and the lady was having difficulty ringing then up. Knowing I would regret leaving him grabbed him and set him on the counter. He went nuts and burst to life stirring up all the poopy water. It's like he knew was getting a new home!
It was instant gratification for me seeing that reaction from him. When I got home today and checked my tanks he eagerly greeted me. Wish he would stop and pose for a picture but must be thrilled to be out of that cup to stop swimming!
This got me thinking about how intelligent betta are. They can be depressed and learn tricks. Maybe I was projecting but it seems he knew that he was getting a better home.

What a beautiful boy!!! So glad that you rescued him! :)

They are so very personable, and they do have intelligence. Every one that I have ever owned had it's own little personality.

I hope that he has a long, wonderful, happy little betta life!

Goku is a firecracker! Nonstop swimming around the tank. Something in the gravel caught his attention long enough for me to snap a non blurry picture.

Makes me happy to see him so active after just laying motionless in a small cup when I first saw him.
He really renewed my joy in fishkeeping after having numerous bad experiences with online orders.

They absolutely know. Personally I think quite a few fish species are more intelligent than they get credit for. After an experience with my second betta, I have zero doubts. That’s a story for another time though :)

Your boy is absolutely gorgeous too, I’ve never seen a blue and orange betta before. I’m very glad he’s in a good home now.

It's Goku's 6 month anniversary! He is doing great. Have a video of his tank although he didn't make much of an appearance in it.
