Do angelfish fry have the same behavior as discus?

Well since I stripped down my tank to just two angels I noticed they have spawned tice in two weeks. The last batch actually lasted a few days but when I came home tonight they were all gone... or were they? Heh I just noticed that about 5 wrigglers have been moved from the original amazon sword leaf to another and that they are wriggling around thrashing their tales... hmm wondering now if I should try to save them ... hmmm. Papa is on guard could be tough

Just a quick question. Once free swimming do angels basically have the same behaviour as discus? Stick to parents and eat the slime coat etc.

Heh thanks! I have decided to leave them alone in the main tank and let the parents do their best to keep them alive. I like natural style breeding, and well if these are eaten etc. Then the parents can try again. They seem to get much better each time so if I start stripping I think I'm sending them backward.

 

Once they are free swimming and still have their egg sac they don't need to be fed. Since they don't feed off their parents slime coat and as soon as the egg sac is gone it is usually recommended they be fed freshly hatched baby brine shrimp. This is what I've done with the ones I raised. but I believe Isabella successfully fed hers something else.
They are so cute when they eat BBs, their little bellies turn orange so you can tell they are eating.
A pair of angels guarding and shepherding their fry around the tank is a beautiful and they are very aggressive toward any intruders. sometimes they will eat them but not usually until after the 4th or 5th day. Hope that helps.

I was feeding them baby brine shrimp, only not live but frozen. Somehow they made it and made it very well! However, if you have access to live bbs, by all means use the live one. I realize they're the best food for baby angels.

 

Well the little wrigglers are still surviving on the same leaf. The mothe sometimes bunches them back together in a group when the spread a little. They have eyes and actually look like baby fish now. I'm surprised how well she is doing for her first batch of born, she really is perservering. ;D

Bah yesterday I lost them. I was so suprised the mother has been so good then gone. I wanted to do a water change so I waited until this morning and guess what I found.... my little wrigglers almost free swimming but moved to another leaf. She seems to like to move them around a bit. Anyway all happy!

 

I imagine they move them a lot in the wild to protect tehm from predators.

Today they ventured out into open water... much to their mothers annoyance who continually grabs them spitting them back in the same place. They are free swimming baby.

I imagine the next batch will be bigger, but I don't think I will interfere ever otherwise I can see I will have millions.

 

Well one dissappeared not sure why exactly, but I could see it has some deformity. Anyway three left doing well and eating, parents just spawned again and they are still looking after the three. This time lots more eggs than ever before. Cool!
