5 Gallon Tank DIY Volcano Bubbler..??

I have decided to build a volcano bubbler... so here is my idea.

1.Cut a (plastic) funnel (a aquarium safe plastic) from the top so it is like a cone with a hole on top.

2.Next get small amounts of red & black gravel and glue it on the funnel ( probably hot glue) ( Hot glue has worked for me before)

3.then instead of my aerator I will remove the pipe surrounding the airstone and put the airstone beneath my DIY volcano....

VOILA!

Now for other questions...

Question #1 How do I soften the edges of the top of my volcano (step 1)

Q.#2 Where do I get such small amounts of those gravel cheap??(Step 2)

Ideas anyone?? I am open to new ideas, suggestions or anything else of the sort.

thx in advance

Does noone actually have ideas

Well, as for not ending up with a rigid cone shape, you could control that with how you glue the rocks onto the plastic. Make sure the glue you use is aquarium safe. I've never used hot glue, so not sure. As for purchasing smaller quantities of rock, what's in the bottom of your aquarium now? If you use the same gravel that is in the tank your volcano will blend in nicely.....otherwise.....I'd check out the craft stores or purchase a small bag of aquarium gravel.

Good luck with your project!

1) If you have time on ur hands you can cut it and use fine sandpaper to sand it down. then use a pantyhose and if it snags, it might rip ur bettas fins

2) cheap? IDK but my lfs has little packets of gravel for bowls that marineland make for $4 Australian.

HI Bettakeeper, If you are careful, use a sharp knife to cut and soften the top of your volcano, after it has been cut, carefully (using a lighter or a candle) slightly melt the cut ends so that the sharp edges are softened, that should protect your betta fins. Hot glue and gravel would work although the hot glue may soften and lose it's grip over time. Excellent idea by the way.

I just had an idea when I went to my LFS just then... you could have a red coloured submersible light (you know the ones) and put it inside the volcano
