I wanted to spice up one of my glass decorations in my tank by gluing on some stones that came out of my old tank. but would it be ok to hot glue them on there or should I use something different and how should I disinfect the stones?

Try and find some aquarium silocone. Should have some at your LFS. That stuff is definitely safe to use (not sure about hot glue)

Hi, you can use quick dry super glue. It becomes a hard resin which shouldn't leach any chemical if any. Basically, once cured/set it is non-toxic or non-hazardous. Check instructions and ingredients first before use. Tip: surface of item to be glue has to be dry for glue to set well.

What I have used before is selleys quick fix super glue. It does the job and doesn't affect anything in the tank.

You could disinfect if "natural" stones with boiling water with CAUTION!

I wouldnt use hot glue. there is so many variants in the making of it even though the base is usually a polymer some of the additives in some of the hot glues they add to make different setting times and structures of the crystals it forms that bond it form new bonds and new polymers some of which will decompose and release nasties into your water. Definitely stick with Silicone

Or maybe as macca said ^ ^ I Got halfway through typing my first post and had to dash n take the gf to work... came back, finished typing, hit reply and there was a new post haha

haha you did the right thing. gf always come first.

The issue with aquarium safe silicone depends on it's adhesive or bond strength. Silicone is flexible so the chances are, they won't hold weight. Selleys super glue is non toxic or hazardous when set.

There are many adhesive types that you can buy that are aquarium safe. Some runny liquid, some thick gel form, and some two part epoxy. They are mainly used to glue corals and rock bases. Some even cure underwater. You can find them at the reef/coral section at any LFS.

If James Findley will use it it must be safe.
