DIY Overflow and Sump, HALP!

Ok so I am going to make a small scale version of the overflow and sump to make sure I know what I am doing when I go BIG!

I understand the overflow but the sump is what gets me..

If someone could maybe make a sketch for me or something? any explanation?

My plan is to have the heating and filtering done in the sump. I have seen sumps with different sections so I am sort of wondering what that is all about.

Also what would be used to pump the water back into the tank?

 

The partitions are to get rid of microbubbles. a submersible pump can be used to pump the water back.

 

your sump will be fed by gravity by your overflow box and then you can have baffles (glass dividers) where you can use different filtering ie live rock rubble then a equipment section ie skimmer , then another section with mm or dsb with cheato or caulpera,
and then you have a return pump to return water back if you type in google and you should find some diagrams

I did use that guide to build mine. It works great.
