Diy Fish Food Mix

Hey guys! Long time no post! Ive been in the throws of setting up my first reef tank! Anyway, I am starting to shift my focus back to my 125 gallon freshwater tank after spending so much time (and too much $) on my reef. My 125 is stocked with 8 denison barbs, 1 juvenile red spot severum, 20 ish cories, 2 bn plecos, and a pair of bolivian rams. I have just picked up some fresh Tilapia, Shrimp, Kale, and Peas for my homeade food. Any other foods you can advise to use? Thanks!

Edit: This food will only be fed every other day! It will not be the only food being fed. I will still have them on NLS Flake often, as well as other commercial foods for now

Adding spiralina and garlic to the mix wouldn't be a bad idea. Carrots, broccoli, green beans, and cucumber are all also other options as well.

Although not required you could also add Seachem Nourish. Nourish is a liquid vitamin formula that can be added to fish food.

I make DIY fish food myself actually, however, it is a more carnivorous based recipe.

Awesome! I have read about Nourish and think I wll add it next time I need to make some! What kind of fish do you keep that require a more carniverous approach? Would love to hear your recipe

I keep various polypterus and a lungfish that require a much meatier recipe. My recipe is nothing really fancy, it includes:

Tilapia
Shrimp
Mussels
Clams
Swai
Spinach
And carrots.

As you can see it is primarily composed of meatier foods but I do add some veggies for variation and a mixed diet.

Ok awesome! Is this your staple food? Do you feed everyday? Trying to hone in on what I should do here. I know severums and denisons benefit from a good amount of veggies in their diet. I checked my NLS flake that I feed and was surprised to see it has almost more veggies than protein. I'm thinking of just alternating days between my frozen mix and the flake, with other commercial frozens mixed in randomly.

Yes, I feed it to them as a staple with occasional changes. Severums and Denison barbs are omnivorous, but most should be plant matter. I would feed the NLS and maybe some spiralina flakes as a staple, feed them the DIY food every now and then, and occasionally add some other frozen food.
