Hello everyone if you are looking for a way to cover your filter intake so fry do not get sucked in I have the perfect way to do it . Take a milk bottle and poke holes in it just make sure to rinse it real good(DO NOT USE SOAP) and just slip it on your filter intake making sure the hole is big enough to put the intake into but small enough so your fry can not get in(You can put a sponge in the gaps).

Here is a pic of my cover.

Hello Jessi,

Something else you can try is to simply use a filter sponge to cover the intake. Aqua Clear makes great sponges for their filters which can be used. Simply slice an X in the sponge and slide it over the intake tube. This sponge will also house beneficial bacteria needed to sustain the tanks cycle. If you see a reduced flow from the filter, rinse the sponge in siphoned tank water.

Tried that and my MS's decided it was a good place to rest and it kept slipping off due to their weight 15x MS
equals sponge coming off lol so I did the bottle and even with them all on it it has yet to come off

I used Fluval edge prefilter on all of mine up to a whisper 60 gal. The latter being wider naturally then took some stretching but it WILL fit with patience. Looks professional, is perfectly symetrical and works great! Prior to that I just got some aqua clear filter insert foam and cut a rectangular brick, used a holesaw of the appropriate size and bored the proper sized hole. This also works but being white discolored rapidly which I found ugly so utilized the fluval approach.

nice idea. I like this idea better then the sponge, whenever I did that the sponge clogs fast and slows the flow a lot.
