DIY background using plaster rock castings

Lily1

This is a work in progress, began a week ago. I am using rubber rock molds, most commonly used by model railroad enthusiasts, to make rocks from plaster of Paris. They will be glued to 1/4“ plywood, painted and then attached behind the rear glass. This will avoid taking up bottom area, make cleaning easier, and prevent any unsafe materials from contaminating the water. Here’s a few of the plaster rocks.

Planning on doing any painting of them?

Absolutely! Will use the same Kilz 123 Primer on the board over the “rocks” & then coat with a slate grey flat acrylic. Then will use artist brushes to paint black & white streaks to simulate a slate look
