DIY aqueon hood mod

So for my 55 gallon tank the lighting was still not very bright even I just upgraded with new lights this past week. It has the two aqueon deluxe hoods. With those two hoods I don't get very much light. I decided I would do a mod to get a lot more light. I lifted up the hood and found under each one is a 15 inch bulb. On each side of the bulb is a small little open area. I thought to myself..... Hey! A cfl bulb could maybe fit there! If I did that I would be able to use four bulbs.

So I looked around at what I had at home to wire it all up. Sure enough I had everything. It took a few hours but the tank now looks amazing!!














I'll get some before and after pictures tonight. Right now there is too much glare on the tank.

Ok here's the pictures. And just to tell you the difference is even more amazing in real life.....it is by far my favorite mod I have ever done. The plants are going to love it too!

looks good!!, you may consider coating the inside of the hood where you placed the new bulb with some heat resistant engine paint so it doesn't warp the plastic.
