Diy 500 Gallon Pond Filter

I want to make overhead aquarium filter(well it is made of plywood and it is on the floor but it has side panels and it is in house so I don't relly know if it is pond or tank)and want to make it to gently overflow like waterfall.how strong should pump be(gallons per hour) and how big sump fpr overhead filter

Think of it as a giant hob (hang on back filter). Take a hob's maximum functioning water volume, including the intake pipe. Figure out how many gallons per hour it pumps.

Now you have the GPH:Vol. Ratio. So, apply this to your sump.
