Dividing A Betta Tank For Another Species?

As you might know, I have a 10 gallon tank with a male betta in it. I don't usually hear people doing this, but can you divide a betta tank and have a different kind of fish on the other side? I'd like to do shrimp with my betta, but I can't 100% trust him with them. Would it be possible to do 1 of the following on the other side?
ADFs
Neocardia Shrimp
Crayfish
Some sort of crab?
Would this work?

As long as it will work in a 5 gallon it should be fine.

It could work as long as there are no gaps for the shrimp to get through. The shrimplets would be able to get through very tiny gaps in the divider.

Do you have any recommendations for crayfish or crabs?

And do you happen to know if chytrid can spread to fish?

Ok thank you! I probably won't do shrimp as I can't afford a ton more plants

ThaI micro crabs would work best I think. Most other crabs would need a much bigger tank, access to land and a lot need access to brackish water as well as freshwater.

ThaI micro crab or dwarf crayfish, any other freshwater crustacean will need more space.

I don't believe fish can get chytrid.

They are so cute but they are really tiny, I'm worried I won't be able to find it :/ How many could I get if I did them?
Any other recommendations?

I wouldn't get more than 2 for 5 gallons, even that might be pushing it. Even in my 10 gallon my m/f pair are territorial and prefer opposite sides of the tank unless they are mating...

Could a pea puffer work?

Most likely I won't be doing this but just in case

lol I had that reaction too, but to dwarf cherry shrimp. To the extreme, I was scared to stick my hand in the tank for cleaning purposes. I even had a scare while trimming plants and I accidentally grabbed a shrimp in the process and we both freaked and hit the deck.. But guess who loves their shrimp? It is possible to get quite used to them. These guys look about as creepy as shrimp used to to me, but all I can say is you never know you might be pleasantly surprised.

I have a Ghost Shrimp named Horace and I absolutely adore him, but he scared me so bad when I first got him because when I went to transfer him he leaped at me. I freak out with anything that flies towards my face, so it wasn't a good start. Hahah. He hasn't done that since he's been in the tank so we're all good now.

I can't really say. I've heard that they do and can jump out, but you should be fine if the tank has a lid. and every few open spots.

I've heard a few horror stories of that happening, might have been amanos though. I keep some dwarf shrimp in a 3 gallon bowl that does not have a lid of any sort and there have been no escapees. I have another 3 gallon shrimp tank that doesn't have a very secure lid and no issues there either. I'd be more concerned about the betta eating baby shrimplets or worse the divider failing.

I might try Amanos without a divider, just to test

I have my male betta with a single Ghost Shrimp. They do just fine together. I think Amanos are just slightly bigger than Ghosts.

I’ve had RCS jump out of the tank before. I have a versus top glass lid, and they were squeezing out through a crack next to the filter.

Oh jeez, have you had amanos do that?

No, but they probably could. Not having a lid is always risky with shrimp. I’ve had ghost shrimp jump out of temporary containers without a lid

I've caught my Amanos walking around my kitchen and hallway floor lol

I also choose not to have lids on my tanks if that helps at all.

Amanos are generally pretty safe with bettas, though some particularly aggressive bettas may attack them. I kept my betta with 3 Amano shrimp with no problems.
