I have a 10gallon and a 20g (its not long or tall I think it’s just normal) and I want to turn one of them into a divided tank for Bettas. I think the ten might be more suitable since I already have a heater and stuff purchased for it. How many sections would be best to divide it into? If I use the ten for males I might turn the 20 into a sorority but I’m not sure yet. Also what is the best diy way for tank dividers?

I would suggest just two sections, each fish gets approximately five gallons
Well, DIY is trickier than just buying a cheap divider from a store or online. I personally recommend LifewithPets brand divider.

You can divide a 10 gallon in half, and a 20 can be split into three or four sections.
