Divided Tank Question...

Hi!

I've been thinking about my options for tanks and fish and I think I want to stay in the betta area of the hobby. That being said, I've been bouncing back and forth with the idea of upgrading my tank, or getting a completely separate tank for a new betta. My new idea is a divided 10g as that's as big as I can go regarding space. I think with the experience and knowledge I gained, I could set up and properly maintain two bettas in a divided 10g.

My question: could I do a male and a female, given that the divider would be completely opaque to discourage any mating behaviors? I'd be fine also with just two females or two males, but I was just curious about mixing the genders. It should be fine if they can't see each other at all, right?

They can sense the hormones of the opposite sex in the water.
If they only have 5g of space each I would do 2 males

Yeah, i think the hormones would drive them NUTS!!

It certainly would be easier to just have 1 big tank divided for two. But it could still be stressful due to hormone sensing. I took the separate tank Route with a partition and sheet between both. They’re both blissfully unaware of each other’s presence on either side.

Thanks! I’ll just stick to two males then :)
