Dither Fish And Some Weird Questions?

I have A 29 gallon aquarium. Currently I have 4 tiger barbs One rainbow shark and one blue gourami. This Tank has been set up for around a year now without any problems. However, the tiger barbs have started to become more shy. Previously they were so active, and now they hide most the time. I have checked all the water parameters and all seems good zero ammonia zero nitrite and very very very little nitrate. I'm thinking about adding more tiger barbs hoping that that will entice the other tiger Barb's to be more active. But I also thought of dither fish. Would there be any good dither fish for my tank set up? I am open to anything, I just want my tiger barbs to be more active.

Sounds to me like you need a few more Tiger Barbs but there are people here that will know a heap more than I.

Depends what you like. but I love sword tails (got them to breed in an old tank of mine and have an emotional attachment to them ever since). Could get say 3 of those?

I am not sure about stocking levels without asking more details, hopefully someone else more knowledgeable will come along. What are the dimensions of your tank?

I'm guessing its an issue of high aggression in a small tank. They never get away from the gourami or shark in a 29.

I have never seen the gourami show any sort of aggression. If I get swordtails I'm worried the tiger barbs will nip at their fins.

You can add 2 more tiger barbs - they may be more comfortable that way.

Sword tails I believe can usually handle tiger barbs - as long as you get 2 or 3 females per male to avoid in-fighting between them.

Again, only going from what I have read elsewhere.

You have some stocking issues with your tank, if you'd like to discuss them. We can help suggest appropriate stocking options (that would be better for your tiger barbs) if you'd be up for rehoming your incompatible fish.

I'm not a stocking expert, so this is all I can say for now, but I would definitely add a couple more tiger barbs, that may help with them being so timid. Even though the rainbow shark is probably pretty small right now, he will get bigger and they are pretty active, so they really should have 55 gallons or more.
