Is it okay to use distilled water for a 5 gallon filtered and heated tank? Also, I'm about to start treating my betta for finrot in a 1 gallon tank. Can distilled water be used here as well? I do not like my house tap water because there seems to be higher amounts of lead in it.

Distilled water is no good for fish. Its void of vital minerals fish need.

You will kill your betta if you put them in distilled water. My mother is a great example of that. 4 of our past bettas died because she put them in distilled water.

Tap water is what you should be using along with added water conditioner. The water conditioner gets rid of the harmful stuff in the tap water.

Thank you so much for letting me know! Definitely not using that.

You could use spring water if your tap is definitely not usable(like mine was). It has limited minerals. The best solution would be spring water and Seachem Fresh Trace (I believe that's what it's called) which adds the necessary minerals back in.
