Discus with heavy stripes

PghAngelfish

My pigeon blood discus has been displaying heavy black stripes to show dominance, and he looks terrible, just from an anesthetic point. is there anything i can do to transfer the dominance to another discus? i already tried rearranging the tank.

Hey PghAngelfish

Could you post a few more stats as it'd aid us in helping you?

How many Discus do you have in the tank?
How large is the tank in gallons/litres?
Layout?

Without that info the best I could do is guess the potential cause and solution which wouldn't be accurate.

Thanks.

Cichlid aggression is often dealt with in the following ways.
Remove the offending dominant cichlid & place in a time out tank. Once the second in the cichlid hierarchy steps up & becomes dominant, re-introduce the problem cichlid back into the main tank.
This method occasionally works, but things often return to the status quo after a few weeks.
Rearranging the hardscape can also be a temporary fix.
My favorite solution involves going to the LFS & selecting a bigger, more aggressive like cichlid & include it into the community. That usually changes up the hierarchy.

I see it’s an older thread but . Discus show black stripes when stressed not when dominant. How many discus in the tank?
