Discus pH

Now that I have figured out what fish I am getting for my tank, The ph is a problem. I know that the pH is supposed to be around 6.5 for Discus but I have heard that 7.8 (my natural pH from the tap) is good for them. They say it is actually preferred. Is it okay??

Please I really need an answer!!!!

They like acidic water so 5-7. But really, all you need to do is keep a stable pH and the fish will adapt.

Welcome to Fishlore.

Unless you are purchasing wild caught discus, your pH will be fine. The aquarium bred fish have adapted to a different environment than their wild counterparts.

Have you tested your tap for your true pH? If not, then take some untreated tap water and add it to a container with an airline. Test this water every 24 hours until the pH does not change, usually 2 or 3 days. This is the pH of the water and is often different that the test result just out of the tap. This is the pH level that your tank will run close to.

Yes they are! Just one more question. I am getting a couple Butterfly Rams to go with my Discuss. What are the best online live fish stores (besides aquabid)?? I want some assurance in where I am buying and want one with a good return policy. Also want one with not much shipping. Many places I looked into wanted 30 bucks.
