Disappearing Guppy

I just got back from a 9 day vacation and my fish tank seemed fine except for the fact that my one guppy seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. I checked everywhere for him, in the filter, behind the tank. etc. but there is no trace of him. The rest of my fish are fine, and this guppy showed no signs of distress before I left so I'm not sure how he would have died. I've heard of fish disappearing before but it just seems really strange.

Maybe the other fish ate him. Did you check the filter? Did you check every hiding spot, or any difficult to access spots in your tank? Maybe he's tangled in some stuff in your tank.

I had a african dwarf get its leg caught in the filter tube thing that hangs in the watter....and one of my loaches goes inside of my decor...if you look at my tank pics its the one on the far right that has the monpanI wood leaning on it...its hollow inside and I picked it up one day to gravel vacuum under it and he poped out he hides in there during the day..its a horse face loach I think I might get rid of him...the whole burrowing in gravel thing sounded cool but I never get to see him I forget hes even there somtimes

If your tank is well planted/decorated it'll be hard to find him. He could be lodged between something or under a stone etc.

I have a 10 gallon tank with endlers, guppies, and ghost shrimp...one of my guppies seemed to have gotten a bit of fin rot...so I had been treating the tank with melafix...he had been hanging around the bottom of the tank and hiding a lot, for a few days...was in the tank this morning, his tail looking healthier, but still hiding near the bottom...I left for 6 hours or so, and came back to find him gone!...I looked everywhere! Nearly took the whole tank apart. In the filter, in and under all the plants, in all the decorations, around the outside of the tank... Nothing! No where to be found lol...is it possable that he died, and the shrimp or other fish ate him? I'd think it unlikely, but that's the only thing I can think of...I mean if they did eat him, they did a right good job of it... No remnants of a dead guppy anywhere... Any suggestions on what could have happened or where the little guy could be?

Sometimes fish just seem to disappear, never to be seen again. I've read of other members here who after a very exhustive search couldn't find them, only to have them show up a day or two later. But then again he could have been eaten.

I had a male guppy (macho man) that disappeared never to be seen again also. It was the weirdest thing. No traces of him ever, I don't think the rest of the fish could have eaten him that quick...........

I've had that too, with other fish (usually neons). I never found out what happened, and they weren't stuck in my filters so hopefully you find the answer, but I have never done so yet. I lost a guppy, but he got stuck in the back of the filter after being sucked in. I've now fish proofed my filters.

so I talked to a few other ppl I know with tanks, and went to the LFS. and they all said the said thing...fish most likely died or was dying, and the shimp and/or other fish ate him...it's really the only thing I can think of happening as well...poor guy

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is there any possibility that he jumped out of the tank?

Does the tank have a lid? Do you have other pets? If the tank does not have a lid, he likley jumped out. I had an African dwarf frog that lept from his container, and I found him dried up on the other side of the house. If you have other pets, especially cats, they may have eaten him.

I don't have a lid on the tank...I thought about him maybe jumping out, but I don't think he did. I looked around the tank and couldn't find him...I have 2 dogs..but they don't have access to the rooms with this particular tank, and I don't think they would have eaten him even if they did...I mean he could have jummped out, and landed somewhere between something, and is hidden....lol, if I start smelling dead fish I'll know that's probably what happened

Very strange, but this could surely be a possibility!!

I think other fish could eat a little sick and/or dying guppy without a problem...
