Disabled Tapatalk and FishLore Apps

The bad news: There have been a lot of issues over the years with using tapatalk and the FL apps which are developed by tapatalk. The FL apps (android and ios) have been removed from the app stores and I've removed support for tapatalk.

I did not take this decision lightly and weighed the pros and cons for quite some time. It has just been an overall pain and quite costly for me to keep tapatalk updated and it creates issues (lots of broken links and broken images) in the database that I then have to spend time on fixing so I'm removing it.

There are many other issues with tapatalk among forum owners (like selling user data) that you can google if you are interested, but I'm not getting into that on this thread. Here is a link to their privacy policy if you want to check it out for yourself: Tapatalk - Privacy Policy

The good news: There was a time when tapatalk was actually necessary years ago because forums were not mobile friendly. That is no longer the case. The version of xenforo we are using for the forum works well on mobile devices and loads full functionality when using your web browser whereas tapatalk had a lot of limitations. The mobile version of the forum provides the exact same functionality as the desktop version.

We have less than 100 or so daily tapatalk/FL app users (and less than that if you consider actual members vs. just visitors using the forum) and hopefully they will switch to using their web browser to use the mobile version of the forum. If users don't want to continue posting here because I've removed tapatalk, I understand and I'll be sorry to see them go but I have to make the best decision for our forum's future.

Thanks,
Mike

The web desktop version is way better than the app anyway.

If it hadn't been for seeing some comments here I wouldn't have even known there as an app, so it's all good on my end (and I use both desktop and Android phone).

Hopefully this gives you more time to actually interact in the forum.

It's an app.
This is what I don't understand. Why don't people go to the internet directly and then to the site?

You can use the tapatalk app to browse other forums and groups within the one tapatalk app. So, one app for multiple forums that support it. But.... many forums are abandoning tapatalk because it simply isn't necessary anymore and some of their practices/ethics are kinda sketchy in my opinion.

Yeah kind of saw this as inevitable to happen. But good move in my opinion!

Thanks Mike! That makes sense to me. I'm paranoid because my ISP provided me with a defective (previously known as comcast/xfinity) router whereby Eutopia.net suddenly became my DNS because of open ports. I knew when the power company was reading the meters in the neighborhood and when any car within 500 yards was using a gps map. People wonder why I don't app.!!!!

If I remember correctly when you first said about getting rid of tapatalk and the app their were very few that didnt agree with you. Especially since the web browser version works great on even a cheap phone (mine) lol.

Thanks Mike! A bit sad to see it go as it's handy to have on the go, but the desktop version is definitely better and has more features than the app, so no troubles

I’ve been using the online mobile version anyways, I didn’t really like the app. Thanks for the heads up though

I mostly use TT when I'm away from home. I have been wondering lately why FL wasn't working through TT but all other forums seem to be working ok. I'll check out the mobile version.

I see that you’ve said that you had removed the FL app on iOS but it’s actually still there and I have downloaded it and it doesn’t work. So I guess I just have to use the safari internet.

Just seeing this thread after some time, so apologies if this is considered thread necro. I was a user of the app and thought it had one advantage the mobile friendly browser version does: notifications. I liked having notifications that threads had been responded to. I know this is possible via e-mail, but I preferred the app ones over crowding my e-mail inbox. Oh well. Reading this thread, I understand why it was stopped. I'd been wondering about that for the last year.

My full version on my phone (not the App) gives me notifications and not emails. I think you just have to figure out the settings.
