weekly notes
14-7-2018
ph seems to be stabilising around 6.8 - 7, having few issues whit KH substrate used is buffering it to quickly or my plants are, hoping this settles down with more W/C. Have quite a bit of surface film which needs addressing, more water changes may help this. seeing a fair amount of hair algae on the glass and around decaying leaves (leaves removed) tap water is not helping on this front (60-80 ppm no3 source). have a strange rot on one of repens, don't think its melt. looking in to getting a co2 system () as I feel this should help against the hair algae as my lights are a bit to much for this size of tank. have new root growth from repens and hair grass, ludwigia is showing a lovely colour under these lights (photo doesn't do it justice). would like to get some shrimp for this tank but little to soon as plants are not up to their best growing wise/cycle.

as I expected the 'melt' on the repens wasn't melt and has taken out most of my repens. I have a small cluster left which did not succumb to any 'melt' and is showing signs of new growth. hair grass is still throwing of lots of runners, have cut the grass back as have issues with algae. lost quite a lot of the Ludwigia Palustris as well only have a few healthy-ish red stems left. as the lights on this tank are very over powered I am have a lot of issues with algae, not fun. co2 would help this but i'm curious to see weather I can make this tank work w/o the use of c02 and the high lighting. after a long wait both my inlets and outlets have arrived very happy with how these look and are working. my 3 shrimp seem happy and are taking full advantage of all the amount of algae. in a attempt to reduce the amount of hair algae I have added no3 pads to my filter.
