Different Rasboras together

Hey fishlore,

I wonder how gregarious could different Rasboras / danios species be together.

Will they school / shoal together? Will they "count" towards another species' recommended number?

For example, seriouslyfish recommends at least 20 celestial pearl danios, at least 8 Harlequin Rasboras... Which of the Rasbora / Danio species can be counted together?

Here are all the ones I'm interested in:
Celestial pearl danio (galaxy)
Harlequin Rasboras
Brigitae boraras
Microrasbora eythromicron (emerald dwarf)
Boraras merah
Microrasbora Kubotai

 

Schooling fish need to be in 6+ of their own species, and a larger school is better than a smaller one for most. They may swim together, but they're not truly schooling together, and you won't see the same behaviors. So none of those can be counted together.

Really? I remember reading somewhere on this forum that different Rasboras could be counted together. (I think it was lambchop and harlequin)

 

If they are the same species, they can. If they aren't, they can't.

So no, these are two separate species and need their own schools. They have little distributional overlap in the wild. They have few, if any, sympatric populations in the wild, so they're not often (if at all) found together.
