Difference between different Corydoras?

Hey guys so I want to have Corys in my 29 gal bowfront. I'm going with 8. But when I went in to the LGS they didn't have any in stock although they said they would have several species in in the coming weeks. I plan on doing pandas but I just know I'll end up seeing another species I like. So my question is: Are all corydoras generally the same as far as size and requirements? Or if I see something other than pandas will I have to do further research?

My Cory knowledge doesn't go too far, but I do know that the different species have different temperature requirements, and I think some get a bit bigger than others

Yes there are enough variations that you should research before you buy

I would also stick to one species of corys in your 29 gallon so no mixing and matching different species. What other fish do you have in the tank? This would also determine what cory species are temp compatible with the rest of your fish.

I haven't stocked yet, still cycling. Also I wasn't planning on mixing and matching, just might have changed my mind on which one species to go with. I'm planning on 10-15 emerald dwarf Rasboras or a similar fish and a dwarf flame gourami

The emerald dwarf rasboras prefer cooler water so I think any cory species would work besides sterbai.

I plan on keeping the tank around 78 give or take a degree or two...could you think of anything else with equal beauty that I could have a same size/larger school than I planned with the emeralds?

If you're keeping it at 78°f you could go with any color morph of aeanus Cory's I keep my tank at 78°f and have albino aeanus Cory's but there are other colorations of aeanus Cory's

If I moved it to 74 would I be able to acomadate Panda Corys and the emerald Rasboras? Also are there any other similar fish you think I should use in place of the Rasboras

At that temp I think you'd be fine. Will you're lfs be able to tell you if the panda cories are wild caught or tank bred? According to seriously fish, tank bred are good from 72-77,with any higher being detrimental, but it also states that wild caught ones will prefer lower temps.

The LFS here is amazing, theyll most likely know the origin of the fish and the parameters they keep it at. I'm just saving a bit of the poor store clerks time by asking the broad questions here

I made the mistake of getting a single albino with my 4 pepper (spotted?) corys. I thought it was an albino version of that type cause they were together at the LFS and the shop owner didn't mention it when I bought my first pair together (go figure).

It (the albino) was fine with the first one I got until I added the next three and then they kicked him out. He's been flying solo for several weeks now, but tonight I noticed that he's tagging along with them. It could just be a rare occurrence, but I thought it was interesting. I'm sure its not going to work out for him for long, but I'm glad he's got some friends again, for now.

74 would be just fine for both. Are you looking for similarly sized schooling fish?
